Turns out he wanted $1M for every run he will give up per outting.

His ERA the last 2 years ( 2.74 + 3.43 ) is less than his current ERA 6.42 Just a down year or is he done.

or you just get the money and don't give a **** (look at Pujols, also).

too bad you can't agree for the next xx years, you play for your contract to stay on a team (i.e. tell Lincecum you'll pay him for 6 years but the amount depends on how he does each season and an arbitrator decides the payment at the end of the season). What's the motivation to pay well at the beginning of a new contract when you have the $$$$$$ locked up and don't give until you need to put up stats for the following contract negotations?

I will always hold out hope that by the end of his career he is a Seattle Mariner.

He has lost all confidence when he pitches and seems to have lost it, might be a down year, might be a sign of things to come. All I know is I am hoping he can get back to even league average at this point.

you don't want that. If he becomes a Mariner, it means he's got declined skills and is desperately trying to find a team that wants him so he can extend his career rather than face the fact he can't fool batters anymore and needs to retire.

Seeing Jamie Moyer in the last few months makes me cry. He gets signed, shelled, cut and bounces around looking for an opportunity or hope that he still can retire a batter.
