Here is one of my favorite quotes of Ty Cobb:

"To get along with me, don't increase my tension."

I might put that on a shirt.

"The early 90's was a totally different era than after the early 90's, totally different"

Cobb was asked how he would hit under "modern" conditions. Cobb answered, "Oh, I'd hit .310, .315." The interviewer was shocked. "But Mr. Cobb," he protested, "you hit over .400 three times! Why would you only hit .300 now?" Deadpan, Cobb replied, "Well, you have to remember. I'm 72 years old now."

The greatest career ending quote ever:

"It's the most hectic, nerve-racking city. Imagine having to take the 7 Train to the ballpark, looking like you're riding through Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some ***** with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing. The biggest thing I don't like about New York are the foreigners. You can walk an entire block in Times Square and not hear anybody speaking English. Asians and Koreans and Vietnamese and Indians and Russians and Spanish people and everything up there. How the hell did they get in this country?"

Oh John Rocker.

After David Ross hit his first MLB homerun as a September call-up against him, Mark Grace responded with, "I didn't have a scouting report on him. Obviously he can hit 65 mph fastballs."

That's the one I was going to post. Now that's comedy.

Mine has to be an instance involving Yogi Berra.

I remember hearing a story about him where he went to a pizza parlor and ordered a large pizza. When he was asked how he wanted the pizza cut, he replied, "cut it in four slices....I don't think I can eat 8!"

ahhh, yogi'isms at their best!

"Did they tell me how to pitch to (Ted) Williams? Sure they did. It was great advice, very encouraging. They said he had no weakness, won't swing at a bad ball, has the best eyes in the business, and can kill you with one swing. He won't hit anything bad, but don't give him anything good."

"They pick me [to be tested for steroids] every time. I don't know why. I don't know if it's because I'm a big guy, or what, but all I know is all they are going to find is a lot of rice and beans."

on pitching to Stan Musial:

"I throw him four wide ones then try to pick him off first base." - Preacher Roe

"I've had pretty good success with Stan (Musial) by throwing him my best pitch and backing up third." - Carl Erskine
