Whats normal??
I guess in Blannings book, you NEVER sell a card of your player, EVER? I know, I am going to be told that I am twisting words, reading to deeply into his post, blah blah blah.
In Miggys book, he sells to upgrade to a better card of his player.
There are no rules in player collecting, its all up to the collector.
I take quality of quantity in collecting Musial now.
I use to go after any and all jersey cards, auto cards, inserts, base, etc.
What you see in my sig is a result of selling off other Musial items.
I dont have endless amounts of disposible income, so I have had to sell lower ended items of Musial for the higher ended items.
So I guess thats what floats my boat also.

Valid points for sure. I won't argue them. However, I will add that for someone who is collecting miggy as hard as him, and for all of the posts he has made in an effort to amass any and all cards of Miggy that it would be strange he is moving a rare card like a plate. Again I am not saying he can't sell, as it is his card. I guess some people like to hold onto any and everything of their player rather than sell.

I know Hanley plates sell for SIGNIFICANTLY less than true 1/1's. After fees how much do you really expect to make from selling? Is it really going to make that big a dent in the purchase price of the mirror black? Is it really worth it to lose the 1/1 plate that you'll never get another chance at, or would it be better to just not buy something else or sell something less rare? I know you're saying to don't collect plates, and I agree I've slowed down buying them for Hanley unless I get a good deal. However, it doesn't mean they aren't still great pieces for a player collection and if it's not going to seriously move you closer to the purchase price of the 1/1 I say hold onto it.
