How great was that HR reaction and trot?

He has the perfect pause & watch, perfect swagger, perfect pre-trot, and one of the best bat flips I've ever seen....sign him up for the bigs.

Sounds like a player that would be benched if I was coaching.

I had a coach bench me one time for swinging at ball 4. The kid he put in for me made 2 errors in the field and struck out...we lost after being ahead for most the game.

Yes, but winning isn't everything. Especially at that age. Kids should learn to respect the game and the opposing players. And I don't agree with the benching of a player for swinging at a bad pitch, by the way.

I not only respected the game, I love/d the game...but I played with a slight arrogance about me and a definite swagger and it doesn't bother me to see a kid enjoy doing very well.

Played with a few of those guys as well. They never made it anywhere. The guys that carried themselves well, respected other teams and played an unassuming game are the 6-7 guys I played with that are now Major Leaguers...

yeah that was nice, it would have been perfect though if he told jim rice or some random old man to suck his nuts after crossing home plate

Yea, let's promote a kid that shows a lack of respect for the game. Great. I agree, if I was the coach he would have been benched. Arrogance and swagger have no place in MLB let alone in Little League. Respect the game. Play it well. Put your head down and run.

This thread reminds me how overused the word "swagger" is in today's society. It used to mean something...

Well, half the kids on the team are probably 16. They've had plenty of time to practice.

Aren't you talking about Japan? They're worse than any of them with that...

I don't agree with all the showboating either but you almost can't blame the kids b/c they see it on ESPN all the time and the baseball video games they play have it on every batter.

Has anyone ever seen Alfredo Despaigne hit a home run? This is nothing really. I think the thing for everyone to remember is that baseball in Latin America is played much differently - this obviously is a form of self-expression and sure a little arrogance as well, but it isn't typically meant to show-up or disrespect an opposing player. The game is more of a celebration (even for the fans) and it isn't quite as sedate as our baseball environment here in the States. Not saying its right or wrong, but certainly something to take into account.

That's kind of my take, they've grown up doing it, the Japanese kids go nuts when they hit a home run, but aren't showing up the pitcher, they're just excited they hit a HR in front of a ton of people.
