Just saw the store in Katy TX closed yesterday.. Don't know how long they've been in business, but a pretty reputable store in Houston area. Guess economy must hit it bad.. Anyone with inside story mind to share?

TBP do you remember those days when bodegas, an arab grocery stores used to sell baseball packs. How about the guy who used to sell a whole bunch of stuff in the middle of Fordham Road in the Bronx 10 plus years ago. You know what I am talking about.

One near me (north of Baltimore) closed right before Christmas. Rumor has it the owner closed so he could sell off ebay and do shows - his store seemed to be empty most of the time I drove by or went in. His prices for wax was SRP and he rarely offered discounts to entice buyers into his store. Same with singles. The owner can be a bit "abrasive" towards customers at times and that didn't help his business. For example, I called once to ask about a box price and he responded to come in to see the price as he didn't give prices out over the phone, where as the other stores in the area gladly will tell you box pricing without hesitation. Little things like that add up.

Yup, Greg is still open...just moved closer to the fabric shop. When he was moving shops I saw him packing up and it scared me for a moment, but all is fine. I actually prefer the new location.

edited to add...I think he was in that old spot since '93. That shop is weathering fine, he shouldn't be closing up any time soon.

Do you Houstonians ever go to Howard Lau's shop, Houston Sports Connection on Westheimer? I go to Greg's shop Odyssey more often because I live in Katy, but Howard has a nice place too.

I leave in Crosby. Both shops are to far for me to visit. But I may have to check out the one in Katy when I get a chance.
