Having grown up with tampered Tylenol bottles and rampant rumors of razors in Halloween candy, I'd probably not even touch the stuff. Was it Topps gum? Maybe is was used to prevent the card from being bent.

I remember opening a box of 1984 Topps back in 1986 and eating all 36 stale sticks of gum. I also remember opening 1988 and 1989 Topps Cello boxes in 1995 and giving a single piece a try before it disintegrated in my mouth. I swear, Topps made a single batch of gum back in 1951 and just used the same supply for the next 40 years in their baseball cards, making the pieces smaller with each passing year.

On my way back from a Red Sox game in 2001 a couple of my friends dared me to eat a piece from an 80's pack for $5. I was sitting in the back seat of his brand new truck (one of those where you open a small door to climb into the back and then the guy in the front seat closes the larger door basically locking you in?) well I had no window control and was stuck with no way to get rid of it. It was a long ride home.

When I opened 3 cases of 2001 Heritage I had no clue what to do with the gum, so with every eBay auction sold I included a stack of the gum with the win.
