I agree. While Bostock's death changed me, Munson's shook me up badly, too. It almost seemed, at the age of 11, that things were out of control somehow. As if the "stability" that I imagined was embodied by professional baseball players had lost its structure and certainty. I had dealt with the deaths of several older family members by that time, but those seemed to make sense, in that I understood that death came to the old and the sick. But Major Leaguers?

I meant to add this to my initial post. As a Dodger fan in Oregon, I didn't have a connection to Bostock. However, I sure knew who Thurman Munson was. Andrew mentioned that he felt his childhood come to an end when Bostock was shot - I think my moment was a season later when Munson died. I already had an intense dislike for the Yankees, but for some reason Munson's death really hit me.
