Joe Mauer>Brian McCann>Yadier Molina.

End of discussion.

If I was drafting a team from scratch I'd take Victor over Yadier as well. Calling a game and defense are great but when the offense is that big a difference you take the offensive star. Especially when the offensive star can call and catch a game at the major league level as well. Mauer and McCann both fit that bill.

When are people going to learn that a catcher is in the lineup primarily for his skills behind the plate? Why do you think guys like Navarro and Varitek stay in big league lineups? A catcher with a good bat is a good bonus, but when you already have a lineup with Pujols, Holliday and Ludwick, give me the best defensive catcher in the game.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, the ONLY catcher in baseball I'd take ahead of Yadi, is Joe Mauer. Yadi simply shuts down the running game. You wander off of first or don't stay focused, he's going to nail you. You decide to run, he's probably gonna nail you. He's made himself into a solid hitter. He's one of the hardest players in baseball to K, he puts together great at-bats and seems to have that skill to put the ball where they aint. He's also very good in big situations. Oh, and he's very good at handling a pitching staff.

Yadi is not non-existant on the offensive aspect.

He's hitting .278 right now, with 5 homers, 36 RBI. 35 BB compared to 26 K. He was hitting .288 just a week ago, he's in a mini slump. Last year he hit .304, with 7 homers, 56 RBI. 32 BB compared to 29 K. He's a very good clutch hitter, and loves to go the opposite field.

I don't think he'll ever be as good as Ivan Rodriquez behind the plate. He was suicide to run against.

Yadi could go down as the greatest defensive catcher of all times.

he better pass Pudge in Gold Gloves and in All Star Games before we give him that title. He has a long way to go. Check Pudge's % at throwing runners out in his prime years

I'm a McCann fan. Yet if I could only take one catcher, it would be Yadier. Joe Mauer is a close second.

And to say Yadier has a shot at the HOF isn't a stretch. He clearly is the best defensive catcher in the game and his offense is no where near HOF material but is on the rise.

Hmmm...a Cardinal who is extremely popular, fantastic at defense and has sub-par offense numbers. NOPE, none of those in the HOF!!!

Yadi > McCann

That's what I have been saying to Gilmore for like ever now!!!!!!!!

Please explain how?

McCann leads Yadi in EVERY single offensive category in 1 season less of play.

I said CATCHER!!!!

Why can people not distinguish CATCHING and HITTING when a debate over who is the better CATCHER comes up?

That's what Chris does.

I'm not talking about hitting, and I didn't say HITTING! I said catching, and I meant CATCHING![/quote:3k2j5u6a]

Part of being a catcher is being able to hit a baseball. If thats not the case then lets call Mike Matheny an elite catcher.[/quote:3k2j5u6a]

Brad Ausmus might be the best game caller to ever play and no one would mistake him for an elite catcher.

Yadier Molina is his generation's Bob Boone.

Great catcher in all regards, can handle the bat, but doesn't quite have the offensive numbers to be associated with a Hall of Fame backstop.

Joe Mauer is an amazing baseball player. I am usually National League minded...................And Bob Boone is my hero. How can someone not love Bleepin`s daddy. I bet Pedro would even tip his cap to him.
