One year deal doesn't carry much risk for Seattle. Worst case, they are out of the playoff race by the trading deadline and they flip him to a contender who needs rotation depth. Best case, he pitches like a #1 or #2, and provides Seattle with the best rotation in the West.

I am dangerously close to jumping on the "Mariners First Place 2010" bandwagon. Dangerously close.

in a short series...yes. however, i'd still take the angels 1-5 over the course of the year. the m's have made some nice strides this off season but their offense and the back end of their rotation still leaves a lot to be desired.

I am just not sure how much the M's will actually get out of him - there is no indication on when he might be able to pitch, he has not shown any ability to stay healthy and he is coming back from a torn labrum which makes me question how effective he will be. That being said, given the choice between him and the Iam Snell/Luke French/Doug Fister/Jason Vargas/Garrett Olson combination that will probably replace him if he can't pitch, I will take my chances with Bedard.

With a healthy Bedard, the M's have the best 1-3 punch....hands down, no questions asked, no arguments allowed. Lee is an ACE on most teams, as is Bedard.

They may win 90 games this year and take the AL east.

Agree with everything but Bedard being an ace on most teams. At best a solid (not strong) #2. Having him in the # 3 spot with felix and lee in front of him = stacked pitching rotation. (Best in the AL West, no doubt).

Don't worry, the M's will always find some way to screw it up.

Bedard can be one of the best LHP in the game. The only reason he's not mentioned in the same breath as Johan, Sabathia, Lee, and Lester is durability. When he's healthy, he's just as good, if not better than some of these guys.

So yes, he can be an ACE on MOST teams. I would say at least half of the MLB teams, if not more. I know he'd be an ace of the Orioles.
