Stafford wasnt even that good in college i didnt understand why he was 1st pick.

Who will be better pro --- Stanzi or Stafford?

Sanchez but I don't see either of them ever getting to a probowl. I think Freeman might be the best of the three and even he won't be a probowler.
::facepalm::

And to you Kentucky. Stanzi will be lucky to get drafted Iowa doesnt produce good nfl quarterbacks. Drew and Brad never really got a chance. Chuck Long was a star in college and didnt fair in the NFL. Id like to tsee Stanzi in the NFL but i doubt it will happen. Maybe if he plays like he did this year next year with less picks he could have a chance

lol ridiculous

Really, they guy has played in only a few games.lol There is no way at this point to have any clue how his career will turn out. IMO this thread is kind of silly.

I'm not ready to jump on either side yet - but I do find it troubaling that he does not seem to be in-sync with C.Johnson. Just look at Orlovsky last year - they may not have won a game, but he had decent production and that was mostly due to the fact that he knew to get the ball to CJ, or simply chuck it up there a few times a game and eventually he's making a sportscenter top play.

Though I didnt see today's game, so I'm just looking at the numbers.....maybe he was doing that?

He was chucking it up there, just to the wrong team. And the long balls he did throw were way underthrown

Oh......in that case maybe he does suck then
Like I said I was pretty much going by box scores and the fact that Johnson's numbers have been pretty dismal with him in there, which I found surprising because he'd have big games the past couple years no matter who was in.

I think the lions throw these kids right into the fire much too fast. It's more likely to ruin talented kids then delay a brilliant career. just mho

I don't think Stafford is very good, but is nothing like Harrington. Harrington had a small frame, didn't move well, and checked down to early. Stafford is bigger, moves better, and takes to many chances. Stafford has better tools, and a much stronger arm. He is just not a good decision maker imo.

Stafford has the tools and build to be an NFL QB. I don't think he will succeed in Detroit, solely because the rest of the team is going to suck while he is there. They are 3+ years away from being relevant. I think he will latch on with another team after the Lions, be the backup for a year or so and come in eventually and be a decent NFL QB. Just another example of why you should just take a veteran and use a high pick on another position. Or if you are a college kid refuse to sign with Detroit

Please don't lump Stafford and Alex Smith in with JaMarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf

Stafford could be a great QB if they can get the O-Line together. He should be able to make his targets work if he is given sufficient time to get a decent pass off.

Are you serious?

......yes explain to me why it does not sound serious? Or are you one of those people who thinks he just needs a year or so...kind of like joey harrington haha

We're half way through his first NFL season, which he missed a couple of games because of injury, on the only team in NFL history to go 0-16 and his best player has also been hurt the last few games. How can you make any sort of judgment on what kind of player he is/will end up being?

Hahaha, I love these threads. Didnt sanchez throw like 5 picks in a game too? No thread about him? Guys, its called "small sample size." Pull your head out of your ass and stop worrying until he looks like Jamarcus Russell.

Yeah, these threads are ridiculous. He's only a rookie, not every rookie QB has a season like Big Ben and Matt Ryan had in their rookie season. Peyton Manning sucked ass his first season too.

Troy Aikman: 0-11 record in his rookie season
Peyton Manning: 3-13 record in his rookie season

There are 2 distinct schools of thought with rookie QBs. 1) If you believe the QB to be mentally strong enough to handle failure, throw them in the fire immediately. 2) Have the QB sit, watch, and learn in the first year.

Star QBs have been developed in both ways. Hopefully the Lions have chosen correctly to throw Stafford into the fire.

I don't believe that, I think they're improving since Millen left. When you've been that bad for so long, it takes a while to get back to where they want to be.

Then why title the thread "looks like lions drafted another bad qb...." What QB should they have drafted instead?

I just wanted to point out to those using the Peyton Manning argument-

Don't forget Peyton also threw for 3,739 yds. and 26 TD's

So yes he threw a ton of picks, and lost games....but he also made a lot of positive plays, so it was reasonable to say he was "learning" and you could see he could be a star if he just eliminated some mistakes.....it was not a Leaf, Harrington, whomever else you'd like to name situation. So we'll have to see at the end of the season if Stafford has enough positives to offset games like this - though either way he'll get a chance to improve/fall apart more next year.

Way too early to decide that...

Remember, people wanted Steve Walsh over Aikman because of his poor play in his rookie year.

Troy Aikman started for a terrible 1-15 Cowboys team. He went on to win three Super Bowls and made the Hall of Fame. Whether or not Stafford could mirror Aikman from rebuilding to contender he is a very good quarterback. Remember Millen no longer running the team. It's a new regime. Same thing Aikman went through when Jerry Jones became the owners of the Cowboys.
