OK, so after pack wars last night, I noticed someone had pulled a 2006 Bowman Draft Travis Snider X-Fractor. I asked what he wanted for it, and he said he collects vintage and non-sports, which I don't have of course. So I asked if there was anything else, and eventaully he said Ryan Braun. So I immediatly offered my Ryan Braun Bowman Sterling auto and some Heritage Americana cards I had just pulled he needed for set building. He accepted the offer, and I went home with the Snider in an agreement to give him the Braun at the next Pack Wars.

Just one hiccup: My fiance, admittedly for the sole purpose to have some interest in what I do, told me SHE wants to collect Ryan Braun. This was mid-December. So, for New Years, I donated all my Brauns to her, thinking she would just keep them on her side of the office not caring for them. Which was the case. I even found her Bible on top of the stack at one point. So I really didn't think she cared.

Well, making this post obviously means she did. To the point where she created an account here and PM'd gvsu96 (who attends pack wars) to complain. I bought another (lesser) Braun card for her, which helped. And she forgave me of course. But it's still weighing on my concience, so I'm wondering, what else do I need to do? Keep in mind, and Brauns I pull are hers regardless.

NOTE, this post should be read with an air of levity, it just doesn't come across in text.

What marterburn giveth, marterburn taketh away...lol.

I'm sure she'll get over it. I'd say let her keep the new card till she's over it. She might enjoy dangling it over you for a bit.

I'm glad my fiance WAS a Brad Ausmus fan. Cost me next to nothing to get her some pretty decent Brad Ausmus cards. Now that she considers him a traitor I have a stack of worthless cards, but who knows, maybe Ausmus will come back as manager and she'll like him again.

My advice, don't let your woman have cards of any real value. She is probably just into them because you are into them. If you quit collecting, so would she. Go to sportlots, get her a big lot of cheap Brauns from a single seller and give them to her piece by piece. That way, you keep her into it because she keeps getting new stuff, but you don't spend much $$$.

She probably won't care in as little as 3 days, it's more for my piece of mind.

I had the same kind of situation with my wife. She told me she liked Randy Johnson and Yogi Berra, not because of their playing abilities, because they are goofy looking. She refers to Randy Johnson as Rat Boy. So over time I picked her up some nice stuff, mainly being a Randy auto and Yogi 54 Topps.

But packing up for a show on day, I put them in to have some more higher end stuff on my table. Well low and behold, it was one of the best shows I have done and sold both. She didn't notice for a while, but once she did, I was in the dog house for a while.

With true love, you never forget but you forgive.

Having said that, it's a shame you had to reclaim a card you gave to her, but in keeping a deal together was the best choice. If she loves you, she will forgive and in time I'm sure you'll make it up to her. If she can not get past this, she does not love you. Get your stash back and find another, less selfish gal.

By the way, "your an idiot" for trading something you gave to your gal.

Luckily for me...other than my Pujols cards...my wife could care less. But even then she doesn't collect so it would never happen. The way I look at it though...if my wife wanted to collect someone...I'd tell her to start collecting him on her own. What good or fun is it if she has nothing she pulled or purchased herself? She would get the sheer excitement and joy out of pulling a nice card or out of nabbing a nice card on ebay.If you just give her everything...then it would most likely take some fun out of it.

hmm, you make a good point. I have a box of 2005 Topps Chrome Update coming in today....I should let her rip some of that and hopefully pull a Braun there!

I had to go with "Dude, you're an idiot"...but with the nicest of all intentions   I always live with the philosophy of: guy speaking - "Whats mine is ours"...woman speaking - "Whats mine is mine and whats ours is ours".

Well i think that this was a very idiotic move on Max's part. I have this fiance, named Max, who once gave me a bunch of Ryan Braun cards for New Years so I could have an interest in his hobby. Then the other day at pack wars he traded my Ryan Braun Auto for some dumb card, that he doesn't even collect. It hurt my feelings a lot. And yes... I made him sleep on the futon. So, I have been through a very similar situation, and I think that Max made an idiotic move.

(don't take this post seriously, its supposed to be funny)
