For all of you Bum believers, Madison Bumgarner is back. I don't mean to jinx him or anything, but he's doing incredible things in his last half-dozen or so starts in AAA Fresno.

In Madison's first two starts of the season, he pitched a combined 7 innings, allowing a total of 21 hits, 11 runs, 3 homers, with a combined 6:2 K:BB ratio. All except that last stat are..well..we'll not go there.

Madison has started seven games since then. Homers allowed? One (in his first of the seven. None in his last six.). K:BB? 30:11. ERA since then (41.2 innings)? 1.30 Times batters have batted under .160 in a game against him in those seven? Four. Times he's allowed more than four hits in a start in those seven? Two. Number of times he's walked more than two batters the entire season? ONE. Number of times he's allowed more than one earned run in his last seven? One. 30:11 K:BB.

Good for Madison. His card prices are headed northward as well. I sorta regret getting rid of my Draft Xfractor BGS 9.5, but I still have plenty of chromes to compensate for that loss.

Is his velocity back? Thats the only thing I really care about. He was topping out in the high 80s last I heard.

From what I heard, his velocity was back in the third or fourth game. He made some mechanical changes because he had got away from the mechanics that had him throwing in the mid-90s the last couple years. Throwing 92-95 as a lefty is impressive.

Yes his velocity is back and he's looking like his old self again but as of right now Hacker is doing better than him.

If he still hasn't developed an average secondary pitch, he won't have much success as a MLB starter.

He is working on a cutter right now and it is pretty nasty. Those who wrote him off were foolish, this kid is very young, he works as hard as anyone and he's big and lefthanded. He is going to be a very important part of the giants rotation for years (unless he's traded).

Bumgarner can not really be looked at as being "back" until he starts making hitting miss his pitches. Bumgarner for some reason is no longer a power pitcher which should be a little bit of a concern...

12 hits in 6.2IP isn't exactly back IMO. I'd like to see the K's go up and the hits go down. The ERA has been good ,but that only tells so much.

That was his last start, but he allowed no earned, meaning he pitched when he had to. Other than that, he has been lights out.

The leagues batting .291 against him this season. He's done a very good job of "pitching great" at the right times during games to keep his ERA down. Like someone said earlier. He's going to have to start missing bats again to be back to his old self.

He's flashed his old form this season. I think he had 8K in a 7 inning CG shutout. It's coming around. Compare to his first two starts of the season, not only has he turned a corner, he's in a completely different country than he was in @ the beginning of the season.

He's definitely headed in the right direction. His secondary stuff is really coming along, from what I hear by listening to the games.

Bum never arrived... then left... in order to be back... let us know when he gets there... then we'll watch to see if he leaves... then see if he comes back ;)

that's what I'm saying. there is a lot of jocking that goes around here, like stanton, strasburg, montero etc.. but the bumgarner hype is wierd... like some guys are emotionally invested .

There are a lot of Giants fans that are more emotionally invested in him than they are in invested his 'chrome' that's what baseball fans do. How is that weird? I'm more worried about him filling out the rotation than the price of his chrome. Color me weird.

so my question is why invest this emotional connection on bumgarner as opposed to other giants prospect? to be honest with the depth in your rotation, investing emotionally in a hitter might be the better option.
