I haven't been around here much lately, and collecting hasn't been quite as fun (largely just too busy to enjoy it), but was excited to get three new pieces in recently.

2004 Topps Traded blue Jonny Gomes 1/1
2003 Bowman's Best red auto Joey Gomes (25 made?)

The blue is one of the earliest Gomes 1/1s made. He had 8 in 2002 (which I have), but those were issued by Just Prospects. His first pack-issued 1/1s were in 2004 (17 of them), and this is the first I've seen. Needless to say, paying Burbank $25 was a no-brainer, and, in my opinion, a huge deal. Interestingly, I now have a greater percentage of 1/1s from the years before I started collecting (17/39, 44%) than I do from the years after (67/165, 41%).

Main reason for making this post is because there's no serial numbering on the back of this card. Anyone know if that was normal for the blues? All my golds have serial numbering (/2004) stamped into the card.

The Joey Gomes card was one of the last 6 cards (non-1/1) of him I was missing. Now down to 5...

And my 11th game used jersey, this one from MLB Auctions. First one I have from the Reds:

Fantastic pickup! I'm not pissed - I'm happy you got your player ;)

I'm pretty sure there's a serial number on the back right corner but I'd have to check when I get home. The 2004s didn't have the hologram/sticker though.

WOW! Great pickup on the blue! Was it listed on the Beckett marketplace? Just an awesome card. I guess the hunt continues for the blue refractor from 2004?

uniquebaseballcards, well that makes things interesting. No stamp on mine, although there is a rectangular depression (and change in texture) where one would go, same as on yours. It's easier to see in person; I have to look at my monitor at an angle to see it in the picture. Are all of yours stamped? I guess the two most likely possibilities are that it simply missed the machine, or it's a replacement/spare/backdoored copy that made it's way into circulation. Other than that, I have no idea. Guess I'll give Burbank a call in the morning and see if they have any information.

Thanks a bunch for the scans.

Thanks gonzagacubs and 200lbhockeyplayer! Yeah, that patch is pretty sweet, being a Sparky fan. It also just adds some overall character to the jersey.

Jeff, thanks! I had a hard time believing it myself when I saw it listed on the Marketplace, and almost called Burbank to make sure it really was the blue 1/1. (Then I came to my senses, and realized they'd probably double the price.) Yeah, that blue refractor is still AWOL. There are a couple more from 2004, too, aside from plates: Fleer Genuine Mini Masterpiece, Skybox Autographics Purple Autograph, and Skybox LE Executive Proof.

On an interesting note, this card was possibly responsible for drawing me to FCB in the first place. A couple people saw a Gomes 1/1 in a lot, and flightposite made a thread looking for me. Came in too late to get the card, but was told by different people that it was either the 2008 Topps Platinum or the 2004 Topps Traded blue.

By the way, have you completed any of the Heritage black refractor or autograph sets yet? You should consider doing a rolling pickups thread; I'd love to see what you get in, and don't doubt that many others would too.

I have about ten others with the 1/1 stamp on back. I suppose it could be an oversight given it was the first time a base Topps issue had 1/1s.

If you, Joey, and Jonny Gomes were in an airplane that was about to crash, and there were only 2 parachutes, who would you save?
