Thank you. I would say Top 5. I give you Washington and Grant.

Very cool card. Just out of curiosity who would be the other top ten? I can only name Patton and Custer, but since I only know of Custer because he lost, I doubt he is one of them.

If referring to the actual army, Custer was not a general, but a Lt. Col. He was a general in the volunteer army, but I would not really refer to him as a general. He was also a terrible, terrible commander. The top 10 american generals IMO are:

1. George Washington
2. Robert E. Lee
3. Ulysses S. Grant
4. Chester Nimitz
5. John J. Pershing
6. Dwight D. Eisenhower
7. Douglas A. MacArthur
8. Winfield Scott
9. George S. Patton
10. Nathaniel Green/Norman Schwarzkopf

As an AF retiree, my bias has to put Henry Arnold on that list. :)

Once again, great pickup!

Good Eye.
I let it slide though as an Admiral is a four-star flag officer, with the pay grade of O-10.
Top of the food chain you know. ;)

I wish Darby had a star. :?

My brother-in-law is a 2-star General :D

I've got a signed business card of his!

Sorry.
William Darby was a full bird Colonel when he was tragically killed 8 days before VE Day.
Didn't get a chance to make General.
But his Ranger Legacy is iconic. Very tragic.

THAT is a nice piece of history right there! Congrats!

I would love a dual signature card of Petraeus and McChrystal.

Indeed; he, Robert Rogers, and the Swamp Fox are at my Dead Guy Dinner Table.

One of the greatest American soldiers of all-time. As Gregory Peck stated in the movie, MacAthur, "Eisenhower was the best secretary he had ever had".

I think he should have been on the list above Eisenhower that was posted earlier.

As a child, I went to the MacAthur Memorial with my grandparents and parents in 1963. The biggest memory I have of the tour was the hat with the five stars that MacArthur had custom made for himself.

This is an impressive thread.

I love the autograph...very cool. I actually just wrote a small paper about him and his leadership during the Korean War. There is no denying what an impact he had on history, though I think one could argue about his legacy (was he a great General, or just lucky? Was he eccentric or just crazy? Was he a rebel or just plain insubordinate). Still, he has a special place in history and that card is SWEET.

Love the card. Love the discussion. Awesome to see Pershing on some lists as well. Great contribution alone of an American Leader over American troops in a Foreign War.
