The Los Angeles Dodgers received a letter from Manny Ramirez's agent Scott Boras on Thursday, rejecting the offer the club made Wednesday.

The Dodgers offered the free-agent slugger a $25 million, one-year contract with a $20 million player option for 2010. The rejection is the fourth in the club's attempts to sign Ramirez.

"We love Manny Ramirez," Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said in a statement. "And we want Manny back, but we feel we are negotiating against ourselves. When his agent finds those 'serious offers' from other clubs, we'll be happy to restart the negotiations.

"Even with an economy that has substantially eroded since last November, out of respect for Manny and his talents, we actually improved our offer.

"So now, we start from scratch."

The Dodgers open the regular season April 6 at San Diego.

They said on ESPN that perhaps he wants 2/50. Maybe he questions why his 2nd year pay would go down if he accepts the option. Makes sense, but I think 2/50 is as good as it will get for Manny right now.

cmon, 2/45 isn't enough? What's the real difference?

The Dodgers are calling thir bluff saying, if so many teams are interested in Manny, let him go take offers. When he still hasnt signed he can come back and start over with the Dodgers.

Boras must really have Manny brainwashed.

I have to think it is the exact opposite, because Boras' rep has to be getting tarnished as a negotiator. If I am a player looking for an agent and I see Boras f'ing this whole thing up I'm not going to go with him. That's of course if Manny gets less then he would have.

I hope Manny never plays another day in baseball. Him either break his leg or owners collude against would be sweet justice. In today's world to turn down 45 million is just disgusting.

FSR reports.

SF bound?? I hope so!!

I saw on the mlb network that SF was staying out of the Manny 'stakes.

And what a greedy son of a biotch.

Then why was Manny and Boras at a dinner table with Brian Sabean a couple weeks ago?

I saw this just a couple hours ago.. I'm just reporting what I saw. Could be wrong though.

It's pride and ego at this point for Manny and Boras. LA knows no one else is involved. If they were, it would have been leaked somewhere. LA knows they are just bidding against themselves, but they also know they NEED Manny. I'm a Dodger fan and know they need him. Even with no other teams involved, Manny still has leverage on them because they need his bat.

Earth to Manny....there is a recession (borderline depression) taking place in the world right now. Take the money and enjoy life you greedy bastard. The rest of the world will continue to look for jobs, food and shelter.
