Peace out Marc Bulger

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... is-locker/

In a move that comes as no surprise yet nevertheless feels surprising (if that makes any sense and it probably doesn't), Howard Balzer reports via Twitter that Rams quarterback Marc Bulger has cleaned out his locker.

Bulger, a former West Virginia quarterback who attended the same high school as Dan Marino, entered the league in 2000 as a sixth-round pick of the Saints. He ultimately landed with the Rams, where he rose to prominence as the successor to Kurt Warner.

But once Bulger cashed in with a big contract, his passer rating plunged from the 90s to the 70s. Three seasons later, the Rams simply can't justify paying Bulger $8.5 million in 2010, given that neither G.M. Billy Devaney nor coach Steve Spagnuolo had any role in acquiring Bulger or financially rewarding him.

So if Bulger is released before March 5, he'll hit the free-agent market before the market officially opens, giving agent Tom Condon plenty of time to find a new home for him.

How about a reunion with former Rams coach Mike Martz in Chicago? As Martz learned in 1999, the guy at the top of the depth chart in August might not be the guy who's holding the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season. So if Jay Cutler takes a helmet to the knee in the preseason, the Bears will need someone other than whoever it is that backs up Cutler.

Interesting. All of the mock draft have the Rams taking Ndamukong Suh, which I think would be a good fit for them. However, if they let Bulger go (which they should), then it raises an interesting question about the QB position. Is Boller still signed? They can't think of him as a viable option, can they?

I think he is still signed. But the rams currently have no qb.

Boller just sucks. He looks like a deer in the headlights.

Boller starts are a fun time. Only issue during his starts are worrying they'd upgrade by putting Keith Null in the game.

As a Rams fan, this changes nothing. We have all known Bulger was done. We can get a QB in the 2nd round. We need the DT. I, and most fans would be pissed if they took any QB first. If they were hell bent on a QB you could trade down and get one. I don't like the QB class at all. I think Claussen may be okay, but don't like the rest.

And if they don't upgrade the WRs, it won't matter who the QB is.

BTW, I think Pike would be a good fit here, and he may fall to the 3rd Round.

Am I wrong in thinking that if they do draft Suh, a potential impact player, they've actually got themselves a nice young core of defensive players there? Lauranitis, Carriker, etc. I can see them turning things around a few seasons down the road and becoming a competitive team again. Especially if they can find themselves a decent young QB somewhere.

Maybe the Michael Vick to Rams rumors are really true!
I hope not. If they did sign Vick I would not follow them while he is the QB. Vick sucks and would not make them a better team. Not really sure what or who is the answer but they can't do any worse than they have been. I agree with the line of thinking that they can pick up a QB in the second round even though the QB class isn't that great.

As a Rams fan, I REALLY want Vick! Nice stop gap for the next few years so they can build the rest of the team. Too many holes right now to draft a QB. I would really like them to trade Steven Jackson right now while he has value. By the time they are good again his value will be gone. Would love to see them trade him to GB, or TB for a 1st round pick and use that pick to grab Spiller. By the time he is in his prime we should be good. He looks like the next Marshall Faulk. Have to go Suh with the first pick, and it would be nice to grab Taylor Mays or Brandon Spikes with the 2nd rounder.

I have had this idea this whole season... This is the Rams off-season I would attempt to do as GM... Is it logical maybe not but still..

1) Trade back PHI's 5th rounder we got for Witherspoon for Mike Vick... This stalls a QB once again
2) Trade Steven Jackson to SD for LT, 2010 1st Rounder, 2011 1st Rounder, 2010 3rd Rounder (Yes that is S-Jax's value and it helps both ends)
3) Resign David Vobora (Mr Irrelevant has turned out to be a phenominal LB IMO)
4) Take Suh 1st Overall
5) Take Spiller with the 2nd 1st round pick
6) Dez Bryant or Golden Tate with our 2nd round pick (Both are great and one will fall to this pick)
7) Draft Tim Tebow with our 3rd round Pick (This allows Tebow 1 year of getting to know what the NFL is like w/o any pressure)
8) Draft the best available LB with SD's 3rd round pick
9) In August about a week before training camp... Talk Kurt Warner into pulling a Brett Favre to come back with his REAL team for one final season (Warner Starts all the games, teaches Tebow, and Vick comes in for the wildcat and gets around 10 minutes a game rather than the 2 he got with PHI)

THE PERFECT OFF-SEASON, but won't happen

ALOT of holes my man! First off, Kurt Warner has something called character. He is not Brett Farce! Second, NO WAY IN HELL the Cahrgers give up that much for Jackson! You will be lucky to get 1 first rounder. Third, If you want LT, you can sign him, I believe he is a free agent. Fourth, DO NOT DRAFT TEBOW! He is not a player!
