Lets say he closes and gets 40 saves. All other numbers are top shelf too.

Does anyone in boston buy his au rookies? afterall, his rcs all pic him in yankee uni.

I won't be buying them.
Though it won't be simply because it's a Yankees uniform. With so many cards/sets and the way players switch teams I limit my focus to cards of players in their Red Sox uniforms.

I could be in the minority though with that logic when it comes to the PC.
Doing it that way does stink when it comes to RC's, but if I didn't there's be millions of cards to track down, and I'd be pissed if I had nice prospect/rc's that I'd sold and they later became Red Sox.

I don't think it matters what market he is in, closers in general don't usually have a big collector following. Not to say his card prices won't go up a little, but I doubt it will be much. Just my opinion.

I have the same logic as the poster above. Only Mark Melancon cards I will collect will be those of him pictured in a Red Sox uniform. It has nothing to do with the Yankees. I am a team collector. I guess if you were a player collector, you might consider that, but then again if Melancon was your focus, you would already have his rookie cards.

I doubt he closes, but I'd have no problem buying his cards....in any uniform.
People that wont buy them because he's was in a yankee jersey..have issues.

+1 I do expect, however, a slight bump in his price due to the number of people who collect Red Sox items.

I wont buy one simply because he is in a NYY uni. I will just wait and hope he has an auto/ref in a Sox uniform

Did any Red Sox fans purchase Mike Lowell rookie cards in Yankees uniform?

I didnt, but I cant put a card of a Red Sox player in a box/binder with the others if they are in pinstripes.

I think it will take more then one good year as a closer for his RCs to get love.

Five years with 40+ saves plus a ring and then you have some good sales

Count me as a Red Sox collector that doesn't automatically go out and buy cards of new additions. I never bought any Carl Crawford, Mike Lowell, Johnny Damon, Josh Beckett, or anyone's else's cards. Not even rookies. Once they have a Red Sox card, hell yes. Except John Lackey, I actually throw his stuff in the garbage.
