I heard this morning that he recently threw 160 pitches one day and actually came in relief the very next day.

That's some hardcore straining.

I believe the 160 was championship game 6 that his team lost, and the relief the next day was 15 pitches in the Championship winning game 7

You may want to re-read what I wrote. I never blamed the yankees.

I think the rules are a joke right now, many agree. I am just using arod as the example.
The Yankees have been sitting back, hoping he would be suspended for the year, just for this signing.
Some in the MLBPA, want arod gone for good. So should a team signing a known PED guy, just be let off
the hook, when the guy gets busted again and be able to use his money or should there be some rules in
place to stop it??

A few years back the angels signed GMJ, anyone with a brain, knew he was using the years before. He got busted
and was never the same, angels had to pay his whole contract. They may still be paying him.

I just think there has to be a set of rules to manage every situation the same. If the mlb wants to stop PED use,
put some risk on the teams also for signing the guys. The yanks are loving that arod got caught and they get to spend
his money, which Im sure, in small part, is why he is taking them to court.

This isnt going to be just a yankee problem. It's bigger than the yanks, I dont think a team should benefit from
a cheater getting caught and the yanks clearly have.

You're blaming the team and organization for what one player did.

Not how it works nor will it be how it ever works.

Whether or not you think a team who had players use steroids should be able to sign free agents doesn't matter because it will not change.

I would love to show a scan but unfortunately I don't know that such a thing exists...

Over the years we've seen a million on-card signatures, as well well as tons of cut (and sticker) signatures. While some may prefer one type over the other, I think that most would agree that you can find nice examples of each. On the other hand, I do not recall a single example of a dual cut/non-cut that ever really appealed to me.

I think there's only one really important criteria to make such a card work, and that is symmetry and balance. Looking at the example below (to me) it's quite simple why it does not look that great. One side has a gorgeous design and picture of the player and a signature signed in gold ink. The other side is a very large blue signature in a frame with no picture. While it pairs two all-time great center fielders, it is just not a very appealing card (same could be said of other cards in the set, including the Babe Ruth.

Now the challenge for this is that this means that a lot more must be considered when purchasing the autographs including the size of the autograph, the paper it is written on etc. That said, I think that if someone ever did this right we could see some really nice looking cards that combine players with those who have already passed on. (Whether it may just be better to have the living player sign an index card or something and make it a dual cut is something I could hear both sides on...)

(Edit: Note that the card below sold for around $500 while a 1/1 Ichiro auto's in the set (similar to just the Ichiro side of this card) sold for $850. It could easily be argued that the Mays autograph actually hurt the value of the card dramatically.)

This card is a fail in so many ways. Ugh

Unlike Dice-K or Darvish - Tanaka is going to really be under the microscope but he's still sort of a mystery man and I think may be the type who is a star but not the 'flashing lightbulbs, look at me kind of guy' and maybe more mature than a Dice-K or Darvish even at 25.

#Bluejays bid on Tanaka, but dropped out if talks when contract length went beyond 5yrs. @LottOnBaseball

Opt-out clause was also a problem. -Lott

I'm glad the jays went hardcore to try and sign him. :/

His WBC cards are going through the roof! Makes me very tempted to list my Tribute WBC card too.

I sold a base Topps Chrome for $90. However, the buyer messaged me to ask if it was numbered or a Refractor right after. The Topps Chromes are MUCH tougher to find than the Bowman Chromes. When I built my stash, I had ~30 BCs and ~5 TCs.

Wasn't he predicted to get a $120m contract? Well thinking about it now maybe a couple other teams had offered him 6/$120m and the Yanks had to up their offer by a year. Not too surprised the Yankees signed him, but that is a ton of money on a big gamble. If he is as good as advertised and that translates into the AL East then it will not be a huge overpay, but until then that's a lot of 'hope and pray' bucks.

Now the question me [and uh...only me] is wondering......who will have the better season on the Yankees staff, Kuroda or Tanaka?

7 years. 155 mil

Have to bring up our old threads. Angels were actually not ever heavily involved and just had beginning meetings. Doesn't look like they ever really considered it ;)

I think it really ended up being the Yanks and the Cubs and the Yanks paid more. Pretty simple. I like the signing. Especially because he only has to be a number 2-3 this year and can work his way up the rotation.

I think he ends up with 15-17 wins 6-9 losses and a 3.2 era with 175-190 IP.

Do you blame Ferrari for the speeding ticket you got because they make a car that can go 200mph?
