Darin Mastroianni is a Double-A OF prospect for the Jays. Fringy guy though he does have outstanding speed. To be honest, I never expected him to even reach AA. Now, he probably has a chance of carving out a major league career as a 4th/5th OF with plus-plus speed.

In any event, last night's game against Portland showcased another one of his tools. Mastroianni picked up four outfield assists. Three at the plate and one at third base.

A quick search shows that has happened in the Majors about ten times but never since 1928.

Majors? He did this in double-A. Not quite the same thing.

How are outfield assist harder in the bigs? Smarter base running?

First I would say outfield size. Most of all you're playing with the smartest players and base-coaches in the world. There is a difference.

Never said it was. Since there isn't (that I know of) a comprehensive play-by-play database for all MiLB games, I was establishing context of the rarity of such a feat.
