Piazza=better hitter, hands down. The nod would have to go to Mauer for better catcher and athlete though.

[I understand opinions, but the facts lean toward Mauer right now. Clearly Mauer's health and longevity may come into play eventually, but right now...I'll take Mauer.

Mauer's playing good...make that real good. If he's still playing good in a decade then we can compare him to Piazza (offensively anyway lol).

Piazza was an amazing hitter but was never though of as a great catcher...Mauer has the chance to be both. With two batting titles under his belt right now, Mauer's health is clearly the "make or break" factor on whether or not he can stay behind the plate. His bat is more valuable to the Twins than catching, so sparing his knees will be a serious consideration (sooner rather than later I would guess).
