I thought McGwire didn't tell LaRussa about him taking steriods until the day before the Costas interview? Selig claims he and LaRussa amoung others discussed this when McGwire was hired as hitting coach. How many white lies and inconsistancies are attached to McGwire? And if you think back, when the reporter spotted the Andro in his locker. I said at the time he staged that to throw reporters off of the steriod scent. It was very obvious. People bashed me for saying so at the time.

As a side note, I agree with you--everyone knows a lot more than they are letting on. MLB has opted to tear off the band-aid very,very slowly over a decade or three.

Selig has been the #1 person involved in the steroid era, and he should wear it proudly.

I'm fairy tired of him continually ducking the issue and refusing acceptance in any fashion.

And yes, LaRussa clearly has known all along in my opinion.

I still have no problem whatsoever with any player that used, and I'll assume everyone benefited from it in this era. To me, the steroid era was/is no different as a level playing field as baseball ever has been.

At this point, if these holy than thou baseball writers who ducked the steroids issue for years are going to hold steroids against the players now...they should have their heads removed. The writers and Selig knew all along, and neither party decided to expose the issue in full force until a muscled Cuban former ball player blew that whistle.

If Selig whines again about how he couldn't get Player's Association support for punishment, I'll puke. Good grief. The media has more control over the game's direction than the Player's Association because the media controls the public perception. And public perception controls revenue. Selig knows this, and yet he offered nothing for years about steroid usage simply to continue cashing the huge revenue checks that MLB was enjoying.

The players were the users no doubt, but it was Selig and the media as a whole that were the enablers. And now the enablers are all high and mighty.

Barry Bonds is a liar, are you happy? The current climate with the whole trial forces him to lie. The fact that fans want to throw out, and discredit records makes these guys lie. If you want the truth, the fans would have to have a change of heart and accept the era for what it was, and not try to take away from these guys accomplishments. Needle or not, they still put up the #s. If the fans and government backed off, these guys would come clean for the most part. But we all know that will never happen. Every one of you would lie also being put in the same situation!

MLB Baseball is entertainment, just like the NFL, NBA, etc.. Until the unions allow for random drug testing and posting the list of the players in the Mitchell report, it will all be speculation as to who did what..

Yea but only about how much he used or who knew. Either way he used steroids and that should be the end of it. If someone used roids or anything else and says they did it for a certain amount of time, I just assume they used for the majority of their career heavily. I don't really believe the only for injuries statement, but you never know.

dude crawl outta my throat. i dont give 2 drops who used what. i was pointing out the irony in you getting all huffy and puffy towards mcgwire for being a liar yet nuzzling up to barrys hairy bean bag... barry is no more or less of a liar than big mac but he is still a liar. you cannot discount the offensive numbers without discount the pitching stats. pitchers used the juice as well which makes the playing field fair in my opinion.
