Everyone was involved in the Steroid Era. Selig, owners, GMs, and managers all turned a blind eye because baseball almost went under and the home run chase injected it with new life. Pun absolutely intended!

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

Get over this "it's Selig's fault" crap or blaming one person in particular...EVERYONE KNEW!!

If you don't believe Selig knew...you're an idiot. If you don't believe the owners knew...you're an idiot. If you don't believe the GM's knew...you're an idiot. If you don't believe the players knew...you're an idiot. If you don't think the fans knew it...you're an idiot.

EVERYONE is going to lie about it, because no one WANTS to take the blame for it. But the fact is...they are ALL to blame.
And if some keep posting about it your an idiot! :) Really it is actually a mute point from this day forward.

I just want to know when they are having recall votes for the other cheaters, guys who actually broke rules, not "cheaters" like roid users. No Whitey Ford or Gaylord Perry in the HOF, they are both cheaters if McGuire can't go. And for the moral crusaders out there, I guess they need to vote out Mickey Mantle too.

I honestly don't see why anyone should care anymore.

McGwire admitted it. Give him credit for that. It may have been 5 years too late, but atleast he finally got it out there.

As for LaRussa, who cares? He probably knew what was going on, but I don't see why it matters if he knew or not. I doubt he would have made them stop it, or even raise a point about it.

Dave Stewart said he had no idea that there were steroids in the clubhouse, which would lead me to believe McGwire's situation was sorta secret, but I really don't see why it matters anymore.

You are very right, but I don't think anyone is claiming that it's Selig's fault. Some of us are calling for him to shoulder the blame for himself and everyone beneath him and resign.

A few quiet moments of inner reflection and you'd be amazed how quickly you can get over this crap if you just ....LET IT GO ALREADY! It is what it is. WERE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?! I was. Moving on

Clearly, many were entertained, just as you were. This is entertainment.

And clearly, many are entertained by discussing and pointing fingers and moralizing on message boards. All part of the larger game.

Part of a larger game called finally "being above" somebody more successful than they are.

Does it really matter? He used roids and admitted it, that should be the end of it. Why drag it on when its out in the open.
Because he is still lying.

Yea but only about how much he used or who knew. Either way he used steroids and that should be the end of it. If someone used roids or anything else and says they did it for a certain amount of time, I just assume they used for the majority of their career heavily. I don't really believe the only for injuries statement, but you never know.

I'm frustrated because I'm having trouble getting across what I'm trying to say. I have to think a bit. My fingers aren't typing what my mind is trying to say

I agree. To me it would be like a guy in court confessing "Yes, I walked up 4th street and robbed the bank and killed those people." And the lawyer says "LIAR!! You walked up 3rd street and you know it!"

McGwire admitted he did steroids, that's what everybody wanted to hear, why bother with the minute details?

A more accurate analogy would be: "I fired the gun, and those people died. But the bullets didn't do anything."

The fact that he is still trying to claim that steroids didn't help him hit more HRs is what people are still pissed about.

I thought he said he didn't take them TO hit more HR's. I don't remember him saying it didn't help him hit them at all.

Enough?
BC: Could you have hit 70 home runs — a home-run ratio greater than anything Babe Ruth did in his time — without using steroids?

MM: Absolutely. I was given this gift by the Man Upstairs

BC: Would you have [accomplished all McGwire did] if you had never touched anything but a protein shake?

MM: I truly believe so. I believe I was given this gift.

MM: The only reason I took steroids was for my health purposes. I did not take steroids to get any gain for any strength purposes.

BC: (Metaphorically hitting head against wall) But didn't you become stronger incidentally?

MM: For my health purposes.

BC: ... Didn't you get greater bat speed?

MM: There is not a pill or an injection that is going to give me the hand-eye — or give any athlete — the hand-eye coordination to hit a baseball. A pill or an injection will not hit a baseball

BC: Conceding the reason you took it in your mind was to stay healthy through a long and grinding season and that you were a very hard worker and understood the science of hitting, didn't you say to yourself in late '90s, "I could do better because of steroids?

MM: No, never crossed my mind. I just believed in my ability and my hand-eye coordination. And I believed in the strength of my mind. My mind was so strong, and I developed that on my own. No pill or no injection is going to do that.

BC: Do you view your achievements now as authentic?

MM: Authentic in what way?

BC: That they're legitimate and should be taken at face value.

MM: I'll go back to the thing: Unfortunately I took steroids because of injuries. When I look at my hand-eye coordination and what God gave me in my ability, I'd have to think so.

Excellent post

We were all entertained

We were all caught up in the home run race

We all would have gave a left nut and possibly a right one to snag an autograph of Big Mac or Sosa at a game back then because they didnt sign much.

We all knew something was up with them

Now that we know...no need to remove their records or ban them from baseball. Its the old line "forgive but not forget". Yeah they did it, yeah they gave us joy at watching homeruns but we dont need to let them into the hall of fame because we know their playing field was on a different level than the others. Ever since Barry bonds hit his last home run in my heart I knew Henry Aaron was still the all time home run champ. Even after McGwire hit his last home run Roger Maris will still be the single season home run leader to me. I say lets all just let this go and move on with life. Lets not reward these cheaters by giving them hall of fame status but all this bickering is not doing the game any good. lets move on people and forgive but not forget.
