A source told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News that Jon Niese has been pitching through a neck injury.

Niese has allowed a total of 15 earned runs over his last two starts, and now there's an explanation for those struggles. "His neck has been bothering him," the source said. "He hasn’t wanted to talk to (the media) about it, or make excuses. Just a lot of soreness there." Niese will test himself in a bullpen session early this week. He's scheduled to face the Cardinals on Thursday in St. Louis.

Wheeler's last start was on Saturday, which means he's schedule to pitch next on....Thursday...this is worth keeping an eye on

The Mets have signed Rick Ankiel, who will join the Mets in St. Louis tonight. He will start in centerfield tonight and bat seventh.
Ankiel, 33, was released by the Astros last week after hitting .194 with a .231 OBP in 25 games. Ankiel hit five home runs and drove in 11, but struck out 35 times in 65 plate appearances and walked only three times.
Ankiel will get a major-league deal, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Ankiel went 0-for-6 with five strikeouts against left-handed pitching with the Astros this season. In his career against left-handers, Ankiel has hit .225 with a .632 OPS, 12 home runs and 53 RBI, with 25 walks and 138 strikeouts, in 477 plate appearances.
Andrew Brown will be sent to Las Vegas to make room for Ankiel on the roster, according to the team’s beat reporters on Twitter. The Mets will have to make a 40-man roster move to add Ankiel to the team, as the roster is currently full, but that move is yet to be announced.
Ankiel and the Mets were talking about a deal today, as reported earlier by Heyman.

Ouch, haha, supposedly every in Houston loved him, as a clubhouse presence, I don't see him as a long term solution, but if he can provide at least some offense for a little while, he'll be better than what we have now

Well I guess since the MLB waiver dumpster has been picked clean, it is time to start dumpster diving the Indy teams for players.....

The Mets have signed RHP Matt Fox from the York Revolution, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
Fox made four appearances in the major leagues in 2010, with Minnesota and Toronto, posting a 4.91 ERA over 7 1/3 innings, with a WHIP of 1.364. He was 1-0 with a 1.58 ERA over five games (four starts) with York, an independent baseball team, this season. He allowed three walks and struck out 18 in 17 innings pitched.
Fox will join Triple-A Las Vegas as a starting pitcher, MLBTR said.
