As we have spent a significant amount of time talking to our direct accounts and distributors over the last few weeks, it seems clear the situation with the baseball category as a whole currently is very tenuous. While we had great hopes for our 2010 SP Prospects Baseball product, we do not feel the timing is right to issue a new release into an already very crowded baseball market. Therefore we will be postponing the release of our 2010 SP Prospects Baseball product at this time and working it into the calendar for 2011 where the market will hopefully have recovered. Any current orders will be canceled and we will resolicit at a later time.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Mike Phillips

For a rookie card set, that is a disaster.

"We do not have the financial resources to produce this product at this time. This is in addition to the lack of pre-sells we have received from the wholesalers and dealers. When we get our 'good' name back in the future we may be able to produce baseball cards again."

Yes the market *is* very crowded, although obviously less crowded than the ridiculous levels of several years ago...

Of course those that are hopelessly addicted and those who are always looking for a new product or player to hype might think otherwise though :)

The real truth? They see how badly topps screwed up topps chrome, many owners distributors, etc took a BIG BIG bath on it. Topps triple threads has dove in price. Topps pro debut is freaking terrible. The days are gone where these companies can put out a piece of **** product and we all buy it.

Its a good idea to drop it if its a mostly (or all) prospect loaded product. At this point, the timing would be horrible, going up against BC, BCDP, BS, Bow Plat, EEE.

If it was a typical SP Authentic product (if thats even possible somehow) then it SHOULD come out even against the heavy weights above.

But no matter what, you CANT pre sell a prospect product without having some sort of a checklist.

I just think moreso now the people who would dive all in to products like this in the past have been screwed over and over and are finally starting to vote with their wallets.

I spent a ton of money on baseball wax last year, but a lot of that has gone to hockey and football this year. Sure, some of it goes back to UD with the Hockey but I think in the baseball realm something new is really needed.
