How do you keep track of your autos, high end cards, etc.?

I keep losing track of what I have and what I don't. I keep a detailed spreadsheet of my Buchholz autos (I track each cert auto he has, if I have it, what its serial number is, etc.). But, I don't have a method to manage the other stuff.

I am not looking to catalog every card I own...just thought it would be good to track the autos and high end stuff.

A spreadsheet comes to mind...but are there better ways?

Is there a cloud based service for this so I can check it when I am not on my home PC?

Here is my clarification...with all these U16, U18 USA autos out there I was wondering how I would remember what I have in 2, 4, 6 years when and if these guys make it. Sounds like we are all using spreadsheets. I was just wondering if there was anything new or different.

Are there any Excel guru's that have a template that works really well (that you are willing to share)?

Thanks all,

T

Personally, I use my brain. But Google docs is out there for anyone to use, and it's accessible anywhere you have a full-featured browser (Ipad, iphone, computer). Or a blog or something can also be used if you just want to make lists, that allows for more basic browsers (Blackberry, etc.).

Your brain is better than mine. I can track the big ones easily...but trying to recall all the autos I have from 2008 Bowman (for example) or 2010 ProDebut gets to be too much.

I had not thought about Google Docs. I use that for other things, that may work for me.

I was curious if anyone knew of a purpose built card inventory/tracking web based application. Short of something like that, google docs may be the right choice for me.

I use an Excel spreadsheet for my Pete Rose collection and my Chris Sabo collection. I scan all of my cards, but for my Adam Dunn collection, I have the front and back of every card scanned. I can easily look at what I have to see what I am missing. I would do a spreadsheet for Dunn as well, but I have more Dunn cards than my Rose and Sabo collections combined.

I have an excel spreadsheet that I first created back in 1987. Back then it was Lotus 123 on a 5 1/4 floppy disk. Actually multiple floppy disks.

It has every card I own broken down by set - close to 300,000 in total. I do have all the commons lumped together for each set but every minor star on up is listed separately with quantity and Beckett value. I know Beckett value is worthless but it is what I use for insurance purposes since I have a separate policy.

I also have a spreadsheet that lists out each of my roughly 5000 IP autographs.

This is all quite stupid and I'm sure there are much more efficient ways to do this (or just don't do it all) but after all these years, I really enjoy it for some reason.

I was using Excel spreadsheets, but realized the benefits of uploading it to Google Docs (portability, etc.), so that is now where it is.

Google documents is your best friend!

I recently started cataloging all of my cards that I purchased and their prices on a Google document, spreadsheet. I never have to worry about getting a virus and losing the file. If you want, I'll be happy to show you how to set it up.

I catalog everything in MS Excel and then back it up using Dropbox every so often.
