GNC said you can bring one outside piece of memorabilia per person, so I printed out the SI cover with him and his 8 gold medals for me and another nice pic for my wife to get signed. After waiting in line for 2 hours, they said that he won't be signing ANY outside memorabilia at all and that he'll only sign the promotional photo. I was kinda pissed at first because I really wanted my pics signed, but once I got the auto, I wasn't as pissed anymore. I think I'm going to frame the unsigned SI cover with the auto'd promo photo below it.

After I left there, I then went to a local K-Mart where Max Talbot was signing autos and stood in line for another 2.5 hours. Needless to say, my feet hurt!!!

Talbot auto 8x10 - my wife got this signed and he added the inscription, I didn't see him put the inscription on anyone else's stuff :D

Sweet autos dude! HOw long were the lines? Was it a free signing or did they charge?

Thanks man! Both signings were free and both of them had about 500-600 people in line. I was about 200th in the Phelps line and I was towards the end of the Talbot line because I got there late because of the Phelps signing. My feet may hurt, but it was worth it!!!

Dang!Great stuff.Man...only 500-600 people?Hell... you got lucky.I have been in lines where there were literally thousands of people(UT fan appreciation day comes to mind).I have also waited in line for 12+ hours before.I would certainly do that for Phelps.Glad you got in there and got something signed.Too bad you couldn't get anything else signed that you wanted.

I have heard that story on Phelps. He only sign the item they have for him and no outside stuff. Why do these places even bother saying he will sign outside items.

I just think the places that have these signings dont realize how much longer it takes to get personal items signed, compared to the same "generic" picture that the athlete can sign many of in one minute. I was at a recent Dion Phaneuf (Hockey player) signing where there had to be 2000 people in line and he was only signing for 2 hours. At about 1/2 hour in they "cut off" all personal items and the thats when the line up really starting moving fast.

This happens quite a lot with all the auto signings I go to.Sometimes you can bring in outside items, sometimes you can't.It just depends on a lot of things. But one thing to always remember...don't trust any of the employees or even the promoter for the event. It never works out the way they say it does.

The thing I hate the most is when they have a big name signing somewhere ,they will not ever let you line up very early and it ticks me off.You get there early so you can make sure you get an auto(sometimes they cut the line off before all the people get their auto and you certainly don't want that to happen)and you ask them where to line up and they say not to.You are the first one there and all of a sudden they allow you to start lining up and you go from being fist to maybe 40th and it sucks.I just got into the habit of forming my own line and telling everyone I see(it helps I know a lot of the local autograph collectors) that is there for the signing that this is the line. Its worked so far.
