Well, as a new member on here, I wanted to say my "welcome to everyone", by giving my opinion on this topic:
I am 39 yrs old, grew up a dog lover all of my life.. For 17 yrs of my life, I have raised champion Great Danes, and while I am now married, with a 5 month old daughter (first), I am not condoning what Vick did, but I am also going to give him the benefit of the doubt as well..
What he did/funded regarding these dogs, is imcomprehensible to me, but he was convicted in a court of law, sentenced to prison in Fort Levenworth, Kansas, one of the toughest prisons in the country, served his time, as mandated by the judge/prosecution. He completed that time, without incident, and was once again a member of his community..By those standards only(the law), to me he has served his justice.
On the football side of things, he was given a 2nd chance, at playing what he has the god-given talent to do. While most teams passed on him, Philly took a chance, and you know what?...Even though they got knocked out of the playoffs, by a better football team, Philly is a heck of alot better than, they would have been with Kevin Kolb, and Michael Vick has earned the right to get a decent contract( if they dont franchise him), and has made Philly a better football TEAM. While there will be some, who will never forgive what he has done, in his personal life, away from football, I say this...YOU CAN LEARN TO FORGIVE, BUT NEVER FORGET....I will never forget what he did, but I also have forgiven him, and there is NO doubt, he has made the Eagles a better football team, and I think kudos should be given to the whole Eagles organization for taking a chance, and becoming a better team, cause there are a whole lot of teams, that passed on him, that wished they had taken a chance...
On a personal level, sometimes in life, we dont understand why people do what they do, but in opinion, if u get time, serve it, learn from it, then I have no problem giving u a 2nd chance, and I think society should to...Let me ask all of you this:...
If you got a DUI when you were 21, and let's say 10 years has passed since, you are sober, gave up drinking, and you are a better person today, than you were then, do you think it's fair for society to still judge what you did as a 21 yr old, than a 35 year old man?..TIME heals all wounds guys...We are ALL better people now, than we were 5, 10, 15, 20 yrs ago...
Just my thoughts;
James
