I normally support and enjoy your antics, but that is low-class jackassery.

I am going to be honest, I never heard of the guy, but I have great respect for anyone who is greatly respected by his team and fans.

I know that was a stretch of a sentence, just run with it.

RIP

Sad to hear another name from my youth passing away. Rest in peace, Mike.

....those were my exact sentiments as well Andrew.....

I remember him as one of the few Northern New Englanders who hit it big, along with Carlton Fisk, in the late 70's/early 80s.

Sad news indeed......

This post is deserving of a pile-on. Personally I find the majority of your posts either stupid, rude, ignorant, or assinine. This post encompasses all of those.

Do you ever try thinking before you type? I didn't think so.......

How about a fresh start there Stras Jr?

Dude, go back to living under your rock. Just stick to your asinine Ryan Howard threads and try not posting in any others to make us all more stupid for reading them.

If you're going to make a joke under these circumstances you've got to ensure it's really, really funny. Yours, of course, wasn't.

Today is a sad day in Orioles history. I'm have a little trouble dealing with this. I always enjoyed hearing what Mike had to say on the air. He was a genuinely funny guy and lived for Orioles baseball.

RIP Flanny.

There has been a lot of discussion on air, even here in RI/MA sports radio this morning about this. It's a shame. The word is that he did it b/c people didn't like him and blamed him for ruining the Orioles team. I'd assume that came from a note he left behind. He has three daughters and a wife that he leaves behind. He seemingly had so much to live for and all the calls/comments have been exactly the opposite - what a great guy he was and how much the city of Baltimore really LIKED him.

It's very hard to understand why he would have taken his life, but many suicides just don't make sense to the rest of us. I wonder if there was some undisclosed underlying mental illness that may have played a role (depression, etc). It's really the only thing that helps to make any sense out of it all.

Sad day for baseball fans.

rip to a great representative of the game... a great person with a great personality... his character and precise observations are what the game is missing these days. while growing up the baseball markets were regional and we got stuck with kc. with an occasional out of market game on satruday jim palmer and mike flanagan were the pitchers we heard about the most. so when either of them took the bump it was like seeing zeus on television. when i was a kid and the nintendo baseball came out my brother and i used to divide our baseball cards then run a draft based on a coin flip. he was one of the pitchers i wanted because of the photo on his 1983 fleer.

as far as schmidtfan... he didnt defame the character or attack the memory of mike flanagan... he didnt question the person... he made a joke about a team... it wasnt funny. however most of the responses towards him are over dramatic. i can understand some of you have a personal connection with the player and this being an emotional time but why not ignore him? i am also sincerely hoping thats not what earned him a suspension... if it was thats pretty weak. and by pretty i mean very.

for defending schmidtfan i need to ram my head into my desk.

A very sad day for Oriole fans and for all of baseball. Mike was a true Oriole lifer, a great guy, and will be missed. He had a personal connection to our family as my sister gave all of his daughters horseback riding lessons back in the day. He was a consummate professional and a joy to hang out with and always had time for the fans.

He was also known for giving up the massive home run to Jose Canseco at the Sky Dome in the 1989 ALCS, a moment he always got a kick out of. A couple of signed pieces from Mr. Flanagan: My signed Orioles:

Signed 1987 Topps (a great shot of the 309' left field corner at good old Memorial Stadium):

Haven't logged in here for a couple of months, but just came to say RIP to one of Baltimore's Legends. Sad news. I don't remember a lot of his playing days (I'm born in 1984), but I do remember seeing him play and getting some of his cards.

Looks like a self-afflicted gun shot wound.

I feel so bad for his wife and daughters :(

Damn. I hate seeing people decide suicide is a better solution.
