Of the two I should say Schmidt but I still voted for Brett.

Tough choice. Schmidt for power and Brett for avg I guess I would go with Schmidt. If possible I would trade Buckner at first and put Brett over there.

Maine of course......
My 2 favorite non-Bosox players from my youth.

Brett for average, (though did not realize his lifetime ave. fell to .305), 2b's/3b's and had better post-season numbers
Schmidt for power, OBP, and fielding

Both won 1 World Series each

Schmidt 3 MVPS Brett 1

While I love George (his pine tar explosion is CLASSIC), gotta go with Schmidt!

It gives me ******-chills when Stern replays his speech from his retirement or HOF or something, where he starts crying like a girl, but I'll still have to say Michael Jack Schmidt.

George Brett is my all time favorite player in any sport, and has been since I was 7 years old in 1978.

I assume that the question is "Who is the better third baseman?" So perhaps surprisingly, I voted for Schmidt, because I truly feel he was a better third baseman. However, it is very close.

I don't remember Schmidt being as clutch as Brett was. I'm not saying Schmidt wasn't clutch, but Brett had a postseason OPS of 1.023 in 166 At Bats, including 10 HR and only 20 Strikeouts. He always seemed to come up in a key situation late in the season or the playoffs, and he would deliver time after time. In 140 postseason At Bats, Schmidt's OPS is .690 with only 4 HR and 27 Strikeouts. But then again, when they faced each other in the 1980 World Series, it was Schmidt's star that shined, with 2 HR and 7 RBIs to go along with a .381 BA.
