Montero stuff will blow up way beyond Trout the first spring training homerun he hits or the batting practice hr's a la Heyward.

In 2008 Jesus Montero hit a Home Run in his only Spring Training at-bat.
In 2010 Jesus Montero hit a Home Run off the "M" at the top of the scoreboard in right.

He has already done it, if he does it again this year. BOOM!

In 2010 Trout hit .571 in 4 MLB spring training games. In fact, every hit he had went for extra bases (one of them being a home run). Just because he has already done it, doesn't mean he will repeat that performance.

I do think Montero will pick up steam in ST, but I think Trout will be hyped a good bit more. Trout won't hit the moonshots Montero will, but the scouts and analysts will continue to rave about Trout throughout the spring.

Small correction on your numbers, Trout had two doubles.

The advantage I think Trout has over Montero is that he has so many well developed tools that it's easy for scouts and other baseball people to imagine him succeeding in the majors, and quickly excelling. If he's slumping, he has the speed and defense to still make a difference in a ball game. He'll be very exciting to watch, and there will always be something for reporters and commentators to talk about. We see this all the time w/ "toolsy" prospects, and usually it translates into consistent hype that builds steam as they move up. That's why I can see his base autos hitting $100 no problem. (Also, Keith Law loves Trout, and national attention from ESPN usually helps card prices)

Montero has his bat and very average defense right now, and that means people start to doubt him quickly when the bat goes quiet (remember his struggles early last season?).

Just to illustrate the point, here are some direct quotes from one of the top search results when you Google "Mike Trout scouting report".

-"There are good prospects, there are great prospects and then there are guys that are just downright exciting. Mike Trout falls into the latter of those three categories. If you're looking for a prospect who can really do it all, look no further than him."

-"Forget the speed and the ability in center field. His bat is what sets the right-handed swinging outfielder apart."

-"From what I saw in Peoria, Trout has the look of a perennial .300 hitter, and given his speed, he is a potential batting title contender."

-"He has solid present game power and plus raw power."

-"...has the look of a 40-steal threat at the big-league level."

-"If it sounds like Trout can do it all, then the message is coming through loud and clear. Rarely do you find players this young with so few noticeable flaws. He plays like a much older player, and has the physical skills to go with it."

Oh yay, comparing ST numbers.

If you would like, we could compare A+ stats, but you probably wouldn't like that, considering Trout was in the CAL league.

Oh, I don't care. Just funny seeing ST used a legit reason why one player could be better than the other.

You'll do well at those prices.

BTW, with all this Trout talk, I'm waiting for the debbie downers to start complaining about having a Trout thread every 10 minutes at the top of the search que ala Montero, and how everyone's stashes are blinding their objectiveness :P

This one is up to $223.50 with five days to go. Anybody have any guesses on where this one will end up?

Check this out, $40 for a Bowman Platinum that sold for $26 yesterday. If Platinums hit $50, the 2009 base autos will hit $100.
