Seems like Hype builds around players pretty much the same as it did 5 years ago. Also, the fact that guys like Strasburg, Harper, and Trout have blown away some of the old ceilings that used to exist when thinking of high selling points for prospect chrome autos adds fuel to the Hype fire.
Yes and no. i think it takes more nowadays to hype up the hype machine. Back then ESPN wasnt needed. The FMart Super sold for $7,100 with no help from ESPN

We can cite any example we want and go back and forth all day long but there is no question that the $$ is still there despite the economy or whatever and the changes you speak of.
