Per MLBTR:

The Yankees are close to signing Kevin Millwood to an "incentive-laden" minor league contract, reports Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated (Twitter link). Millwood is represented by Scott Boras.

Per Roto:

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees are close to signing Kevin Millwood to a minor league deal.
Heyman calls said deal "incentive-laden," meaning it will carry a couple million in performance-based bonuses if he makes it to the major league level and hits certain innings marks. The Yankees will probably ask Millwood to open the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and attempt to work his way up.

Just seems to be a backup plan if all else fails. Meh, nothing special here.

Re: Millwood to sign with the Yankees

I was going to post this
He is a decent innings eater at a 4 ERA
Especially if the Yanks are at home with the short porch

4 ERA is a bit optimistic, no? He had a 5 ERA last season to go along with a 1.51 WHIP....although thankfully he won't have to pitch against the Yankees!

And just to add to this, Mitre has been traded to the Brewers.

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Brewers have acquired Sergio Mitre from the Yankees.

It appears Nova/Colon will get the rotation spots
Garcia will get the long relief role
Millwood to AAA

Giradi is liking Garcia for #5. He feels he can hold up better then Bartolo can.

I'm on my phone, so please let me know what Milwaukee gave up for Mitre.

Chris Dickerson

Thanks. I'm just glad it wasn't Logan Schafer. After the break in, he's all I have left :)

Milwaukee had far too many OF'ers as it was at or near the MLB level. And ST has been a bit of a casualty collection point @ Maryville, they needed to patch some holes.

Finally. Girardi had some attachment with this guy.
