Think they should, nowadays at the ballpark many who are sitting close to the field have no idea whats going on in the field.

quite a few minor league parks are extending their netting as well this upcoming season. It seems like MLB not only had a meeting among themselves about safety measures, but that info got shared or passed down to minor league teams as well.

The NY Penn league team by me had them last year, home plate to the end of each dugout.

Working in the position I am in at Busch Stadium I can see 2 sides of this argument. The season ticket holders that sit front row on the 1st and 3B side are going to throw a fit, no doubt about it. Nets obstruct the view. It also creates a huge issue with what we do with baseballs that hit the net. Are they thrown back to the authenticators to be sold in the gift shop or do they get tossed over the net to a fan. My guess is that they get given to authenticators. I have seen 3 or so people get hit with foul balls this year in only 1 case do I believe a net would've helped and that lady was texting when she got smoked. I was sitting with my back to the field against the rail for awhile there without a helmet and never felt unsafe.

If it helps one person from getting hit. It should be worth it. Ask the lady that got hit in the Red Sox game.

I saw it on the Boston news stations. Man, that looked nasty. The poor women.

I was sitting by the Pesky's Pole and saw the commotion but didn't know what really happened until we get texts from friends watching on TV.

I understand that there should be protection, but folks should pay attention at the games. Cell phones are the culprit or 'just having a social occasion'. If folks would pay attention, that'd be wonderful. Texting a selfie from the first 10 rows of you sipping on a Coke w/ducklips ... well, you get what you deserve.

Even if youre paying attention, those foul balls are coming at u fast

VERY fast!!

I was thinking the same thing. I was at that game. Sox vs A's

She was screaming in pain like as one dying. Scary stuff. I think she was in critical condition overnight that night, maybe even next night. And her kid was sitting right next to her, never mind her husband being there too. Gotta pay attention!!

A 2014 Bloomberg piece cited approx. 1,750 injured fans per season at MLB games...most within the area where nets will be placed.

The lady was transferred to a rehab hospital with a traumatic brain injury about a week later.

"suffered a traumatic brain injury, is actively rehabilitating, is on numerous medications, is not able to drive due to her condition and requires 24/7 supervision," WFXT reported. She's also suing her ex-husband for custody of their son.

Sounds like Mike Tyson! :)

Seriously though, time for more netting, sad as it is-- esp in places like Boston where the field box seats are so super close to the field of play.
