The local Johnstown Chiefs (East Coast Hockey League) are now affiliated with the Minnesota Wild.

You might recognize the Chiefs. Where from? "Slap Shot" starring Paul Newman. The movie is based on the Johnstown Chiefs, and was filmed in Johnstown PA. A number of Johnstown teammates had roles in the movie, and the Hanson brothers were based on the Carlson brothers of the real life team.

I'm not the smartest person when it comes to the NHL as a whole, so can somebody tell me if the Wild look promising or any helpful info? I see they're 3-9 as of now :? . I really only pay attention to things relating to the Lightning and Penguins.

The Wild are an OK team. An ECHL affiliate won't get too many big name prospects, more just extras that they don't have room for in the AHL.

As far back as I can remember, the biggest name the Chiefs have ever had was Arturs Irbe in 2003. So I'm not expecting any top prospects. They've been affiliated with a ton of teams over the years. It seems like lately, they get a new team or two every year.

Islanders head coach Scott Gordon used to play Goalie for is. My mother has a picture somewhere of him holding me as a baby.
