How old is too old for each level in your opinion? I understand that there are qualifiers (e.g. recently drafted in Rookie ball doesn't mean much), but what's a good "time to move on" age for each level. If you want to expand it to college and high school draftees, feel free.

Rookie (second year)
Low A
High A
AA
AAA

I say if you're not in the majors by 22, you're a bust.

I think that if you're over 23, 24, you shouldn't be any lower then AAA. But there will always be exceptions to prove any generalities wrong.

The lower levels are kind of tough due to the fact that players can be drafted anywhere from 17-22 years old, so it's a little harsh to ding them for that. Another thing to keep in mind is a "toolsy" HS kid can toil in the lower minors for 3-5 years then quickly put it all together. With that being said, I like to see guys sniffing the bigs by the time that they are 23 or 24.

22 is a bit ridiculous to expect. some college kids don't even hit the minors until 21-22. I'd say 25 is about the oldest.

Obviously being in the bigs or any other league or level is one thing, but having real success there is quite another... as Heyward and countless others have found out about the MLB.

Please tell me your kidding. I say you can be successful and maybe even make the HOF at 23-25. I dont understand you can be a bust at 22 in the majors but you should be at most 23-24 in AAA

Now that you said that, I'll change my 22 deadline. I say you're a bust if you're not in the majors by 19.
