Don't like this at all....... 162 games and you get a one game playoff (which is certainly reasonable to break ties).

Imagine wildcard winner 1 with 99 wins playing wildcard winner 2 with 85 wins. Team 1 is trying to win division and ends up with #4 or #5 starter having to win one game playoff. Team 2 is already locked as 2nd wildcard so shuffles staff so #1 goes in one game playoff. Just stupid.......

Also, "for the 2012 postseason, the five-game Division Series will begin with two home games for lower seeds, followed by home games for the higher seed. After that, it will return to the 2-2-1 format previously used." This is just dumb ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

MLB, what are you doing????
So it's better to miss the playoffs all together than make a 1 game playoff?

Makes sense, extra day to play golf.

And they had to make the schedule changes because the schedules were already set before the changes were made. It will return to 2-2-1 next year. Do some reading, less reactionary posting.

....I did read the article in FULL. If MLB wanted to do this, just defer a year and schedule accordingly. Don't do things half-ass by making a decision in March for things already scheduled. Higher seeds playing first game on the road is lunacy......

I like the addition of a wild card team, i just think that it should be atleast a 3 game series. I understand that it could mess up teams pitching but as stated before if you have the 4th team thats won 90 games and the fifth team won 80 I just dont think you can tell who the better team is by 1 game, especially in the game of baseball, its much different from football or basketball due to pitching matchups and such. you play 3 game sets throughout the season, it should atleast be a 3 game playoff.

I don't mind one more team making it. However, making it a one game playoff is stupid. Of all sports out there baseball is the one sport where literally nothing is proven in one game. This is going to be a disaster when it comes to who pitches in the one game series.

The only good part I can see out of all this is it really puts an emphasis on winning your division. So you can avoid the one game debacle.
