I'd like to think the Cowlishaw statement was more of a cheap poor joke made at the expense of his interpretation of all mma fights being boring. Without knowing the character of someone, a gay choke like that looks in poor taste[generally is there one in good taste?] I've never heard of him prior to today nor have I read any other articles so I'm making an assumption. I've had friends basically say the same thing.."wtf its a bunch of dudes rolling around humping each other" but after a few ppv's they caught on to the sport it's kinda cool to see them get into it.

Kinda brings up the points of those who may use racial/homophobic words phrases without realizing the connotation and the reflection on their character regardless of their actual views.

I can't watch the Arum video at the moment as I'm at work.

The Bob Arum interview is just sad. He doesn't try and backtrack at all, but rather tries to add to the pot or ignorance.

Tim Cowlishaw is regularly in ESPN's Around The Horn, so he certainly has national exposure. These columnists know exactly what they're doing on the subject - trolling for national reactions.

People don't realize how much skill and training it takes to be a professional MMA fighter.

I don't put too much stock into anything any sports writer says. Most just look to stir the pot and have their few seconds in the limelight for something they said that they thought was witty and confrontational.

I don`t think Cowlishaw is like that though.
I don't either, I think he's an old school boxing lover who can't accept MMA taking over, and he probably enjoys guys punching only and not grappling.
