Oh no another Montero thread. Head for the hills.

If theres yet another uptick in his prices, its because here in the NY radio market theres been a whole lot of talk about him which is rare because prospects dont get talked too much about until they are on the team. On top of that, Yankees Magazine TV show did a feature story about him last week and the term "top prospect" is always used to intoduce him.

I know that prospects always get hyped, every offseason before spring training. Where is this guy gonna play? 1st? Not with Tex there, start at C over Posada? Not yet anyways. I heard someone say they could DH him. Now why would you do that? I understand that he would get to see ML pitching everyday, but DH?

I am guilty of prospecting, but where does it end? Heyward, Stanton, Montero all SUPER hot right now, yet they haven't stood in the box against one ML caliber pitcher. I just wish I had some of those guys to cash in right now, because I doubt they live up to the hype that the machine has created.

This happens almost every year. In 2006, it was Phil Hughes, who incidentally was NOT on the team. His cards skyrocketed.

In 2007/08, it was Austin Jackson.

Now it's Jesus Montero.

And next year I predict it'll be Melky Mesa. Just a hunch.

Why?

Regarding the TV show, it TOTALLY made him out as the next Yankees catcher.

Only role for him is DH which is one of the reasons why the Yanks didnt offer Matsui a nice contract considering thats the only place for him

Also heard on the radio that one of the Yankees sources said they expect him to be up sometime this year. Also, they talked about how really young he is and how rare it is to be on this team at that age.

I know this sounds common to us but for non prospectors, imagine how it sounds for Yankee fans to hear all this about some 20 year old mega phenom in their system.
