Wow! Big blow, but the good in this is a little more time to wait for my Bowman redemptions to come back from Topps and then to BGS. The way his stuff was picking up, I can wait for Topps a little more patiently. Hopefully he gets those stickers signed for Bowman Sterling as well.

How long does a broken hamate usually take to heal?

He broke his finger, not his hamate. This will not be a long term injury.

Oh I know. I was actually just wondering. Sean Coughlin (Kentucky/DBacks/Mobile) broke his hamate last moth and I'd already planned on seeing him at the end of this month. :(

Broken Hamate Bone Recovery....

Conservative treatment requires immobilization with casting for 6 weeks, followed by an additional 4-6 weeks of physical therapy. If the injury is treated surgically with hook excision, the patient can start physical therapy immediately, without limitations, and can return to full activity within 6-8 weeks. If the injury is treated surgically with ORIF, the patient requires casting for 2 weeks, followed by an additional 4 weeks of physical therapy without placing strain on the affected wrist, before progressing to full activity in 6-8 weeks

Alot of ballplayers get their hamate bone removed, to recover faster and play sooner. If they don't, they are looking at 3 months of recovery, before they can be back to 100%.

I wouldn't be too worried about any player breaking their hamate bone. A majority of players just get them removed, since you can easily play without one.

Removal is the best thing.

Injuries for catcher is too risky. If the Yankees willing to move him to a different position it will prolong his career. His hitting well but his defense is not what was expected. Unless he hit like Piazza this kid at the current price is too high for long term investment.
