10 spots on the list of 45 are catchers (Berra, Dickey, Cochrane, Lombardi)

Probably has something to do with reading a pitch out of the pitchers hand... not fooled as much as a position player would be overall.

I voted yes. I agree that although it might be tough for a current player to do so, someone will eventually come along and do it. Just think nobody would have thought 15 years ago that Pujols would have even come close. Who knows, baseball might even evolve more towards a more small ball mindset down the road again. Just look at college baseball with the new bats. These programs are having to adapt, which might put more of these qualifying players into the minors years ahead.

I didn't vote but from what I understand, Harper is going to go 90 HR 0 K in 2011 after hitting 21 HR in 21 MiLB AB's in the season's opening week. That's the only way I can figure people can justify dropping a G on his Aflac Auto. I'm not even sure if those stats would provide a price increase on that card.

Yeah, I figured most people who voted "Yes" are patiently waiting for Bryce Harper to come along. :)

jet0002 - I am not saying it is never going to happen again, but just looking at the current hitting trends it doesn't look too possible at the moment. I would LOVE to see the small ball mindset come back, I think that would be awesome. Not likely though. Take Jose Bautista for instance....he was a nobody, then last season he came out of nowhere and hit 50+ HRs. Because of that he got a $50+million extension. many players don't mind striking out as long as those are offset by a decent amt of home runs. Pujols did come close but he is one of those once in a generation type hitters, may take 50 more years for a similar player to come around. I am patiently waiting for one of those sub 20 K hitters to come along again, ala Tony Gwynn.

fkw - I was very surprised to see so many catchers on this list but I think you have a great point, being able to read a pitcher and whatnot. I know that Jason Kendall rarely struck out, and finished top 10 9 times in AB/SO and is 5th out of all active players. Impressive for a C. Victor Martinez only struck out 52 times last season (538 PA).

bodiaz - Impressive indeed....I don't think that record will ever be broken.
