MrMopar's New Dodgers Autograph Thread (and other interesting items on a slow mailday)

Every once in a while, the new Leaf stuff does catch my eye. The strange colors cards do and I have said that before. This Electrum Avenue was also one I thought looked cool enough to chase, despite it being a 1/1. I am quickly losing interest in many of the shiny, prismatic, foil cards they are churning out though. Makes the Heritage Real One and similar "old school" card designs that much more special in the end. I guess if the younger generations like these shiny things enough, they are the new core audience and 30-60+ year collectors are quickly becoming irrelevant now.

Another Leaf Garvey 1/1. i think they made 1000 different of them just this past year! At this rate, it should not be long before Garvey has more 1/1s than regular cards made.


Another cool Banty creation, this one is oversized like the original Kahn cards.

1/1, /12, /15 Triple, /25, /30 and unnumbered. Sometimes I wonder who, if anyone will want all these Garvey cards once I decide to give them up. Non HOFer hurts the exposure and demand into the future.


Maddux /87. Although not technically a Dodger card, it's shows him in uniform. It counts! I think most of his Dodger auto cards are actually Padres cards.

Another Dean. Happy that i can still find a few guys in Dodger uniforms, on certified cards, that don't cost me a fortune. Whatever money is driving new card market now, these people need to research the hobby and see how foolish it is that you are pumping up just about everything. Roki Sasaki autos $100+ WTF? Most of what is being bought now will drop severely in value.

1/1. Another of these cards that you see and ask yourself..."Why?". Then again, who doesn't want a giant octopus on a card with your favorite MLB player. Let's make it a 1/1 while we're at it. Is Leaf actually mocking card collectors, laughing to the bank when they see people buying these?

A new name scratched off the list. i expect he'll be gone before or by season end. Seems to be the fate of many of the pitchers they pick up deep into the season. Happy when i can scratch a new Dodger off the list for a few bucks though.


This is a unique and fun one that i stumbled upon and had to have. Joe Davis, Dodgers announcer. I now have a collection that includes (4), you read that correctly, FOUR certified Dodger announcer cards. Barber, Scully, Jarrin and now Davis.

The announcers are a pretty cool idea, though. I have Scully.

I love this card. Interesting design, the colors seem to go well together and it's a certified card of a guy who didn't play long with the Dodgers, only 49 games in 2006. Part of the thrill of filling in gaps on the Dodgers autograph want list was discovering these kinds of cards existed (since I was not looking for them at the time of issue), especially when a lot of them were of lesser known players and the cards were not overly popular or expensive.

Sadly, Lugo has since passed away a day prior to his 46th birthday of a presumed heart attack!

I will pick these cards up when I see cheap copies. I think this might be #4 now.

I wonder how future collectors will receive these types of cards/items. There has been a general acceptable of non-licensed cards in my lifetime, but usually limited audiences and at very low prices. Of course, most 80s-90s "broders" looked terrible, were poor quality and you'd think a 5th grader made them in art class.

The quality has increased incredibly. They are homemade creations of art in many cases rather than the mass produced junk we saw in the 90s, but they are way better than some of the licensed cards being passed out these days.

One is a small counter display sign and the other is a card sized "badge". Some cool stuff that I hope is appreciated many years from now after those creating them are gone, as well as those of us who are adding them to our collections now as they are being made.
