There was a lot of wildness at this afternoons Phillies game.

Pagan hits an inside-the-park homerun. Francoeur hits a triple, takes a triple away from Bruntlett on an overturned call by the umpires (umpires conferred and decided it was a catch), hits into an unassisted triple play to Bruntlett to end the game. The unassisted triple play was the first to end a National League game and the second in history to end a major league game, which happened in 1926. Before Bruntlett made the triple play, he committed two critical errors that almost allowed the Mets to win. Pitcher Ollie Perez was taken out of the game in the first inning when he had a 3-0 count on pitcher Pedro Martinez.

So in short the same player was involved in a triple, an unassisted triple to end the game, and a triple that was changed to an out.

The Mets had 2 inside the park hrs today?:

Hmmm... I only mentioned one. I re-mentioned it in the recap at the bottom.

Jeff didnt have an inside the park hr,Pagan did.

Yes, you're correct. And to think I watched the game. I somehow got Pagan and Francoeur mixed up. It's fixed now.

It was Pagan who had the "inside the park" homerun.

This series has to be the worst umpiring I have seen this year. That triple should have never been overturned, Mark Wagner strike zone was all over the place, the lodged ball, and of course the Francouer caught stealing call.

Anyway, we're off to Pittsburgh to watch the Phillies. Also staying at their hotel so Friday or Saturday I hope to post the haul.

Cmon do you really think that ball was lodged?
Did you see how easily Raul Ibanez picked it up and threw it in?

It doesn't matter. My understanding is that once it is lodged at all and you throw your hands up it is a ground rule double. Now if the ground rules are that it is in play then it's Victorino's fault.

There were no ground rules for Citi Field in the umps manual. The fact that Ibanez just grabbed it make it appear as though it wasn't truly lodged. After all, if a ball gets lodged in ivy and the player can grab it at Wrigley, isn't it still in play?

Sort of a moot point because Pedro gave up a double and triple afterwards.

As for Frenchy's triple-catch -- he caught it! It SHOULD have been overturned! He caught it flat out!

But, yes, a poorly umped series. There was another play at first yesterday that should have been overturned (met was safe when he was clearly out on replay).
