My opinion is if a seller isn't willing to list an asking price, then they probably know they want more than they will likely be able to get from most buyers. Holding out for your price isn't really a good plan for trading card sites like this. I would assume a quick sale method works best. Blow out stuff cheap and fast to dime box type buyers. Otherwise, list it on ebay and see what "market" is for it. The hot stuff always sells and the boring junk sits.

I think one benefit of these sites is that there are compartmentalized forums for special interests, but on the flip side it keeps general interest traffic down. There are forums for each sport, talk, transactions, etc. If you had one giant forum, topics would get buried too fast Then if the forum is too specific, nobody checks in.

I just don't have the passion for trading much anymore. I don't buy any new products and that still seems to be the favorite online, so I have nothing to trade most people or what I do have has limited interest. Trying to find older stuff is tough, because it's already been dealt or it dried up. I spend nearly all of my time on sites like this is the card talk forums, because I just want to talk about or read about the hobby. As long as the chatter is interesting, I stick around. I do most of my buying on ebay or COMC occasionally.

If anyone is trying to haggle at what you put up prices for, well, they're an idiot. I've kicked myself more than once for missing the boat on one of your lots.

It's just about every time I make a transaction thread. lol I ALWAYS go to ebay, find the average prices, and make my lots AT LEAST 30% lower, usually more. More than half of the PMs I get are looking for an even better deal. What's the point in trying to give people deals in the first place? Just another reason I've been around less and this hobby is losing its luster.

The answer is to nut up and bring people here with you and then have the patience to watch it grow. No one does that anymore.

This response rubs me the wrong way. I've waited a day to make sure I don't write anything that is an overreaction. This statement essentially says that it is OUR fault that there is no traffic on the transaction boards. That we simply don't put enough love into this site.

It's utter crap. The problem lies with the administration. I had a boss once that always used the saying, "A fish stinks from the head up." Sure, we could possibly do more but the onus lies with you. I once offered to bring an entire crew of collectors to this site simply for the opportunity to recruit from FCB. You turned it down. I understand you had reasons for that decision that related to the fact that our group has a separate forum, but do you realize how much we could have improved the transaction boards by adding collectors for literally every team in baseball? The problem became that several members of that group got a bad taste in their mouths from the manner in which you handled that situation. So a few of them come here, but most of them avoid FCB like it is plague-ridden.

So don't tell us to nut up. You nut up.

Same here, I see a Ty Hope lot listed and hope no one has gotten it yet. If I'm lucky enough to be the first guy to PM I don't even bother checking ebay because I know it is a great deal from the get go.

Back to the topic, sellers have to post prices. I used to ignore all posts without prices, and at shows still walk past all tables without them. The price gives a starting point, so I can know right off the bat whether it is worth my time.

I have been preaching this from day one. If the cards are of hot players and the prices are a shade under ebay and a picture of that card. Odds on the card will sell. Anyone who has any list them up I buy all the time. Especially prospect autos and parallels.

I have nutted up. I've made decisions that made this website better. You want to vilify me because I chose to not go with something you suggested. I've never let any group recruit from FCB.

Genuinely not trying to be a dick here Chris, as FCB is the only board I frequent, but things have been a bit unstable here lately, and that tends to drive away potential users.

i.e. sigs being gone today for some reason
images in sigs is a bad idea. I am obtaining feedback, and making changes as the feedback suggests. There is plenty of room for self expression in your mini profile.

I think that's a joke...how many people had sigs??? Everyone??? Literally??
And a few people complain??
Aren't Signatures able to be toggled on/off in the settings for people who think it's a "bad idea"??

People should have the best experience possible by default. Most people don't even look into advanced options.

Then make it a default "off"? I don't get your reasoning. Why even have that option, then?
*edit to add-In all my years on FCB, I have never heard of anyone complaining about Signatures. Too big? yes, but signatures in general? Never until a recent thread...

I'm not vilifying you at all. I still show up. My point was that you drove people away that would be buying from the transaction boards because you wouldn't allow them to recruit collectors into a mutually beneficial group. It is funny, because if I had just done it, I doubt it would have even been an issue. Better to ask forgiveness than permission, right?

My bigger point was that it is not OUR job to make your site more active. It is your job. Ask us for suggestions. I certainly support that. But to follow it up with a statement that claims WE, the users, are falling down on the job is laughable. If the website fails to thrive, it is on your shoulders not ours.

I was completely against it when this first became a topic of discussion. My thought was why force people to post prices...if they want to make a sale they'll do what needs to be done.

Now that it's in effect, I think it drastically streamlines the process so you can see where people are on certain things. That allows for quicker decisions and therefore, more transactions to happen.

List a price so everyone knows where to start. I'd say use words like OBO or Firm. I understand everyone wants to sell high and buy low, it's just the nature of the hobby. I feel market dictates the price and unfortunately that can go up or down.
