Or "collected" because he figured if he wanted to sell, Hamilton stuff would get decent coin. There's nothing wrong with it. Just a weird way to collect. I think we're all just not too shocked because stuff like this happens all the time.

I have no problem with it nor does it bother me that people are in it to make some money. I just feel you can't always expect a card to go up in price. You win some, you lose some. Either way be prepared for both scenarios.

Yeah, but you said it was more common to lose, meaning there would be LESS flippers, not more. You're confused in your statement.

No, timing is everything in the 'flip' - most everyone already knows this, but apparently you don't.

?

You bolded the part of the OP's post about losing more than 3/4 of what was paid for the cards, said it wasn't "exactly atypical", and then implied that is the reason why there are so many flippers in the hobby. That there would be an abundance of flippers because you commonly lose 75% of your investment doing it indeed makes no sense. Whether or not hive knows that "timing is everything in the 'flip' " is irrelevant to your first nonsensical statement (and also nonsensical as well).

He is talking about how there are people who will exploit OP/others who commonly sell when a player tanks.... and if there are a lot of people selling low, it allows a flipper to re-buy in low (assuming the card will not stay at rock bottom...as in this case) It would be a zero-sum game then. If I offer a $20 card for $10 my error costs the same about as your gain.

Haha can't believe this thread had this much response.
I never originally bought Hamilton as an investment I PC'ed him for the years he was a Ranger. Not the biggest fan of him leaving for the Angels but don't blame him because the Rangers front office never intended to for him to be resigned for his asking price.

It was more of a rant that I lost so much money on his cards when I had no choice but to sell. Same could be said for the Strasburg and Heyward cards I lost money on.

Cards are easy to sell and you can make money on them in a pinch, which I am in owing the IRS tax money for 2012. Recovering $4500 in a week is pretty good money. Thankfully I had some Harper and Kevin Durant cards that did really well.

I collect because I enjoy it not to make a profit but when you can profit you do it. And hindsight is 20/20 so I wish I would have sold when the time was better.

And I never said I hated him in fact he is a pretty cool guy the 2 times I have met him once at a card show signing and once I met him at Target after the 2010 World Series and just before Christmas he was in the same checkout line with his wife and we chatted for a few minutes probably one of the coolest sports star experiences of my life.

IF that's what he was TRYING to say, then, A) you did a MUCH better job by actually stating that instead of making another in a thousand "flippers/prospectors are bad" passive-aggressive comments, and B) he wasn't even close to making that or any other logical point.

It wasn't hard for most anyone here to figure out, but I'm glad you got it. Or is this an attempt at trolling? Doesn't matter to me, none of this is a big deal.

Nope it was confusing and dumb. You were just the only one who couldn't see that. I pointed it out for you. You're welcome.

Why do you think he gave up during the stretch run? He struggled, yes, that happens, but he gave up?

Did you see any of the games he played in?
Dude sucked ass and played like a little leaguer dropping a pop fly versus Oakland that lead to the inning getting out of hand and then sucked it up vs Baltimore in the playoff game.
He may have not quit quote un quote but he didn't play up to the expectations he set for himself as a All Star MVP type player.

Slumps are part of the game. He carried that team first half of the year.
