last week I won a Mario Lemieux 1985-86 Topps RC in a BGS 6.5 slab. it had a surface grade of 5.5 but I couldn't figure out why. so yesterday I removed it from the slab (which was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be) and discovered it has a very small and barely noticeable depression on the surface. I do not care because like I said when I won it I am just happy to finally have one in my collection and for $40 I couldn't go wrong.

thanks guys.

I would love to one day get the chance to have it autographed in person by Mr. Lemieux.

I took a pair of needle nose pliers and pressed down on the top corner near the label. once a little piece snapped off the corner a stuck a small flat head screwdriver inside and turned it from side to side until the seal on the top broke. next I went down each side turning the screwdriver the same way and broke enough of the seal to free the card out the top. just go very slow and stay away from the card at all times.

I actually also freed this card as well last night...

was a BGS 8.5

Very nice Mario!!! When I won my OPC rc I was the only person to bid on it because the seller BUTCHERED Lemieux's last name.

Awesome card Dave, glad you freed it, I prefer my PC cards free as well. $30, is that the going rate for a 6.5 Lemieux RC? WOW, great price.

thanks Tim. I have an eBay search for misspellings of Lemieux because there are a lot of people who don't take the time to check their spelling. maybe one day I will get a nice steal.

thanks Jared. I am not really a fan of graded cards either. I think the reason it went low was because there were a few 9's and a 9.5 listed at the same time.

I was always curious how to remove a card from a BGS slab. Going to have to save this thread in my favorites.

Like G$ money said that card would look awsome autographed. I would send it right into PSA to get authenticated.

Cool card!
