My personal "don't do this" to the card companies

Being in this hobby for over 35 years, I've definitely formed my opinions on what should and shouldn't be done with cards.

For this post, I'll stick with game used and autos and what SHOULDN'T ever be done with cards.

Immensely ugly design

Has nothing to do with lack of logos, just a plain ugly card.

Messed up design

Wow, did anyone think this through? How did this design get the ok?

Crooked sticker

I don't have a problem with sticker autos, just make sure they aren't crooked.

This. THIS. THIS!

THIS bugs me the most. Photo doesn't match the jersey.

Minuscule name

BONUS! Take a small printed name and make it vertical!


Somethings missing design

Donruss used to be notorious for doing this. Thankfully they've stoped doing it.

Way too busy

Self explanatory

Anything mini

From years of selling game used, nothing sells worse than mini cards with a swatch.

Those 2003-2005 glut period Donruss cards with the purposefully missing/empty auto/relic spots are just horrid when I look thru my binders. It's like the card is saying "hey, you almost got the cool card. This empty spot here is where the cool thing would have been if you had gotten it."

That one hits home because this one from my PC always bothered me. I needed it for my O'neill and Mattingly PC but come on! The worse part is the crease it came with in the box of that A's patch,

This is my jersey version. Kind of plain. They could have done better with those jerseys

Yes. But sometimes the obvious and common sense seems so distant to these designers and executives from multi-million dollar companies.

Unfortunately, I had to buy some of them due to the fact that they were the only autos for certain Yankees made. But god were they a horrible design. Everything that shouldn't have been done, was lol

I don't mind the Panini Century cards, some of the oddball photos are pretty neat (Jim Rice playing football, Larry Walker as a goofy-looking kid), and they usually come cheap.

With a piece of jacket cuff from his Mets manager days. Subtle, but awesome. Many of the classic era players in Century had great pictures; Panini dug up some great shots:

The only reason I own this card is due to the utter disaster that they are. Some guy on Blowout was trying to build the entire set and was buying case after case after case, plus singles. He loaded up on some great sticker autos, but the cards are just plain and terrible.

Of course, I chased the unique Garvey cards in the set.

By the way, I own 1/2. Just too lazy to grab the correct scans.
