Could someone please explain how people are ripping a list that is all about projection before we see how the players pan out? Come back in a few years from now if you want to see if the list is legit.
There would be no market for prospects if everyone did that.
Sure there is. You buy who you think is good, and if/when prices go up you sell them. I am not saying not to have opinions, all I am saying is that to rip someone else simply because his ideas are not in line with the scouting reports you have read (or from what you have seen) is ridiculous considering we know how unexact a science it all is. IMO there's nothing wrong with disagreeing, but dismissing someone as ridiculous or the like makes no sense to me. JMO of course.

If someone is going to make a list, they're going to have to take the negative feedback.

This list was made off assumption and off what other scouts think, I'm pretty sure the poster has'nt seen any of these players live

There's gonna be people who like the lists and some who dont

That's just the way it goes.

Not sure I agree. When one posts a list they are opening them up for differing opinions, but I see no reason why it opens them up to insults and the like, especially since none of the opinions can actually be substantiated until we see how the players pan out.

Nice list! Thanks for sharing.

Also, I completely agree with your ranking of Goldschmidt. People in the hobby are too caught up in his minor league stats (or deeply invested in him). There are concerns about the bat speed and some scouts think he's merely a mistake-pitch hitter and a platoon bat.

To compare him to Stanton is ludicrous. For one, Goldy will be damn near 24 if he hits 40 homers this year. Stanton was 18 when he hit 39 homers.

Think about that for a second.

Goldschmidt has mashed everywhere he has been.

So, he went to college can't really devalue him for that.

To be fair, he went to SWT, which isn't a real college

Other then Barry Bonds, i cannot think of another hitter that went to college before having a HOF baseball career.

by the age of 24, most HOFers have had a few years service in the majors

This is a pretty solid list, coming from someone who doesn't make a living covering baseball.

Now, it doesn't matter how you rank the top 50-people are going to disagree-but that is what makes this all fun. You can respectfully disagree, and that makes sharing thoughts about this fun. No need to make anything personal, though.

IMO, Machado is definitley a bit high here-but it depends on how you look at him, too. If it is all projection based, I can understand-I would just like to see him more consistent to put him #5. The last 2 or so weeks he has been very average. But, that will happen at times in a full minor league year.

And yeah, you have guys too high based on "industry consensus", but it's YOUR list-so I respect that. Who knows, we could come back to this in 5 years and laugh and say wow, this was a better list than all the major industry "experts." It's what makes this all fun and interesting.

fair enough. i guess i should have stipulated that someone who is 23+ that hasnt made themselves an everyday MLBer by that age, has a very small shot at mega-stardom

does that mean that money CANNOT be made on them? of course not

But where was anyone saying he was going to be in the HOF? I mean, you are talking about the top 0.01% when it comes to making the HOF.

So, I'm not sure why you even brought the HOF into this discussion. Goldschmidt could be a darn good player, and never sniff the HOF.

because those that do the prospecting are not into "darn good" players. the hobby isnt too keen on them either.
