Here we go... switching to 99.9% Vintage. Former University of Kentucky players (Football, Basketball & Baseball) & Ted Kluszewski.
If I had anymore bread to go around, I'd do more shopping with the seller. The card is a beauty (chime in vintage folks) and I'm pretty sure the 'graph is real... plus it got here in one day flat! Seems like the IL-TN route is always fast.
Anyway, he got glowing feedback for this beauty.
$17 Shipped...how can you lose?

Re: My vintage life begins.

These arrived today and I'm very happy. I tell you though, it really must depend on the mood of the grader when the grading process takes place.
While the Blanda is a beauty... a 5 grade was generous in my opinion.
I'm seriously thinking about selling off everything I have except my Don Mattingly collection in order to go vintage only.

Re: My vintage life begins.

I'm not bothering looking at price guides... I know what I can afford. This card is a little rougher than I'd like... I usually say no to ANY creases... but for $8.99 shipped...I thought it was a YES... any thoughts vintage folks?

The small crease doesn't distract from the card and the tab is still on it. I think you did well.

Re: My vintage life begins.

Couldn't find anything of Ralph Beard (the guy in my signature)... then I found this; 1948 Topps Magic (Hocus Focus).
Don't know much about them, so if you vintage fellas have some info, it'd be nice.
It's on it's way and I gave $25.25 shipped for it. Pretty rough, but I had to have it. I'm really thinking about selling my Uggla collection, it'll hurt, but I'll have funds for vintage goodness.

have you sold off all of your non ugla cards for vintage money. if so keep some of your favorite uglas and sell off the rest. that way it will hurt less

I gave up on new stuff a few years ago. I now focus on upgrading my 1965 Topps PSA set and enjoy that more than the new stuff.

Wanna trade for the Goudey Ruth? ;) 8-)

Thank you very much. It's awesome to find vintage things that I can actually afford. Something I've noticed as well since going "vintage only" I'm kind of getting that familiar feeling I had when I was a kid... saving up to take a trip to the flea market..or a shop...in order to find a few cards ... seriously, it's starting to be fun again. It has also taken me to actually purchasing from names that I'd see in the old Baseball Cards Magazine (I can smell the mag now)... I got a card from Kit Young and Kruk Cards.... :D Seriously, it feels good. I hope I get some paying customers for custom cards or signatures soon, I'm eye balling a few nice ones right now. :D
I'm sticking to Big Klu and University of Kentucky greats for now, but maybe one day... I'll head out and give some of you vintage pros some competition. :)

Something I think is kind of cool as well... the '48 Topps Magic card that hasn't arrived yet, I got it from a dealer named Dave Levin, he's the "finder" of the 1,200+ Old Judge horde from a few years back. No big deal I guess, but I find it cool. :D

I got a few in the mail today ... now lemme scan! :D ;)

Well........................I thought about it but I think I'll keep the Ruth!

I do like the Klu though, I was very happy with my recent Klu '49 Leaf pickup and the Red Man, with tab, is an outstanding pickup as well.

Keep enjoying!!!

You sure? I'll give you a hour to make up your mind!!! ;)

I actually have the '48-'49 Leaf Big Klu. Decent shape. I saw one in way worse shape go for $48 + on ebay recently... I was surprised. It was really rough. Do you collect big Klu or just vintage in general?

Today's mail:
$21.99 Shipped. Maybe a little much for the condition, but I like it. :)
BabeParilli1952BowmanSmall.jpg

$7.90 Shipped for the next two. I feel I did great on these. Is it just me, or are 1959 Topps easy to find in really nice condition?

Wow rc1457, I just looked at your busket! You must be one of those "advanced collectors" ;) :) I am jealous! Seriously.
And your '48 Leaf big Klu is in better shape than mine. :| Mine has better color though..so :P ;)

Waiting for this one to be delivered. It should be any day now. It's not a key card but is a tough find. This has a pop of 41 (I think or maybe 46) graded as PSA 8 and it's been a couple of years since I saw one as decent as this show up.

Re: My vintage life begins. Update: 8/21/09

Hey Mattingly, if "advanced" translates into "getting old", well I'm getting there I guess.
Thanks for the compliment on the collection. I've told it before but I was lucky, the bulk of my vintage came in a purchase with a guy whose dad had passed away. In a cigar box were 145 Goudey's from 1933, the '34 Goudeys, and the wide & thin pens for the most part that you see in my bucket.

That got me started again. The cards I collected as a kid, '66 through the '70's I haven't scanned. Mom didn't throw any of them away.

I'm looking at Klu and Nuxhall as individual players to collect as well as almost anything with the Reds. I also can be pulled into other cards that strike my fancy.

I had looked for the Leaf Klu at Nationals (my first) but couldn't find one that suited me. Most were too expensive or too bad of shape. This one was just about right, it cost just a hair over what the one you saw on ebay went for.
