Two names come to my mind. 1 from each league, whether or not they make the playoffs is another thing but here they are...

AL: Michael Young- IMO people do not appreciate what he does. He consistantly gets near or more than 200 hits a year. Consistantly hits over .300, steals bases, and hits for some power. He is one of if not the most underrated players in all of baseball

NL: Matt Cain- Great pitcher, who possibly would have been a household name if he had made the all star team, which he did but got replaced after getting injured. He would be the ace of 90% of baseball teams staffs. He IS an ACE but ALWAYS gets overlooked by Tim Lincecum. I think if he were to pitch the Giants to the world series along with Lincecum that he would become a houshold name

I dunno, who's in the playoffs? ;)

If the Rangers make it, if they don't get knocked out early, you can count on Neftali Feliz being a big name. Think the 2009 version of David Price.

i cannot believe he doesnt get more love from the the card or baseball communities.
.282 28hr 94rbi 80runs this season. he will get a chance to shine in the spotlight this fall.
Hell yah. He's Mr. Clutch for the Dodgers this year, but most fans on the East Coast can't see him play because the West Coast games end so late at night.

It's already happening

If the Giants make it then I see the "Kung-Fu Panda" getting major attention. Breaking it down there are quite a few factor's that would make him viable for this thread (as long as he produces as he has thus far/this season):

1) 1st off his "nickname"! "Kung-Fu Panda" will allow him to be remembered not only by the sport-fanatic men who are watching (as this crowd of viewer's will remember him for his production & his unlikely huge size that goes with that production- but size will be discussed further down on the list) but also by children & women alike! I can just hear it now (a husband watching the game in the living room calls out to his daughter, son, & wife: "Hey guy's "Kung-Fu Panda" is up to bat, get in here & see if he can hit you another home-run...or better yet let's see if he eats the 1st baseman!" :P ).

2) Secondly, Sandoval's appearance helps him in this area for several reason's! One, it will make him more recognized for his contribution's & will "wow" people as they take notice to the type of production he puts/has put up (a guy that size & that big is not your typical, everyday athlete, & "Average Joe or Julie Fan" will take note of this! His looks will also bring about a feel of familiarity with the everyday, average, working class man/woman (they see Pablo & aren't immediately intimidated by his "model-like good" looks or his "toned & ripped-out" physique)....As far as the psychology of looks goes, his weight & appearance give off a "good-guy" vibe (he doesn't have that tv series/movie "bad-guy" appearance, which as odd as it may sound many of the players appearance's subconsciously give off those positive or negative vibes...Pablo's rotund stature is on par with a "Jolly" character that children all over the world go crazy for every year in December  ). Also, with Pablo's average looks & hefty size, the boyfriend's/father's/husband's won't secretly be holding a hidden jealous grudge & cursing him under thier breath everytime thier wive's/girlfriend's/or children root for him as they watch the game! :D

3) The attention he will be getting from the media, as he is basically a rookie & has already accomplished so much in term's of pruction (& you guy's know how the media & announcer's can talk-up & hype these guy's). Sandoval has impressive stat's from this year & from the bit of last year which he played, so when the anouncer's start rolling out the hype-talk & bringing forth all of Pablo's contribution's, there will be many an eye-brow raised & plenty of people's interest's peeked (to do a bit more researching into this guy that they haven't heard alot of)...

Just my opinion (I have 0 card's of Pablo, but after writing this I think I've talked myself into buying in)! :D

Great Post. I agree with most of this, let's just hope the Giants can make the playoffs!

You only need one hand to count all the active pitchers with 250 wins.

Adam Wainwright.

The homer in myself agrees.

I don't see Rasmus playing enough to make a splash, but Waino was oh so clutch in 2006, so I'm expecting it again.

by no means why i arguing what he has done in his successful career. I just thought it was an odd choice since this thread was geared towards more young up and coming or under the radar players. I think Kendry Morales was a very good choice is the Halos get in.

Teixeira has been elected by fans to start two All Star games.
I don't think he really qualifies as a possible breakout star.
Or did you just want an excuse to show off your card? ;)

I have a hunch that Matt Kemp will get a ton of pub in the postseason.

I really like what Ive seen from the Cardinals in the last few months. At first, I thought Molina as well but im going to go with the Cards bullpen and closer. When the likes of Carpenter and Wainright depart, you need to shut the door.

- Also, its a homer pick but I suspect Troy Glaus will get his name involved in some way. Its hard to argue with the post season stats.
