Cahill's cards have dropped like a rock as the season went on...all the hype is gone and the prospectors have moved on...

I pick 2-3 sets and gather every rookie under a 1.00 book that I can find.
usually you can get em for .10-.50

This has always paid off for me in the long run and I do mean long.
I recently parted with several Jeter SP,Topps,Topps gold, Bowman,Signature rookies,Classic draft picks, etc, etc. Was a nice return on about 10.00 spent. I mean, what stock in todays market can you invest 10.00 in and reap 300.00 15 years later ?

A-Rod's were a bit more. The Die-cut's cost me around 2.00 ea,I say cost but I traded for some 25 as well as 30-40 of the regular #15. Again, 800.00 for 50ish investment.

Now that coin has 2-sides. I would point to the 60 or so Pat Listach cards or Aaron sele that everyone grabbed as they came out back in that same era, because they were the "hotness"

I always invest in the lesser expensive cards because if you are going the long haul, the least invested also means the least lost. Now, if you are looking for the next "new star" and trying to turn a fast buck or a quick trade up,then I am afraid no one seems to meet the criteria based on the trades I see taking place across several forums.

I do know I have picked up a LOT of 2009 Topps chrome rookies and parallel sets only too see some of the players already ebaying at 5-7.00 ea,players I picked up for .25 ea. You just have to have a method.

Dorky as it sounds I can look at most players and I can feel if they are worth collecting. A player has a look,a seriousness about him, if he is here to make his mark. A lot of people went Erik Karros crazy in the 90's,but the man had a flat look, disinterested look and he performed that way after year 1. Look at Jeter's UD minor league cards or his Classic draft pick. That is why I collected him,he "looked" like he was here to do something beyond smack and catch a ball. 3 other rookies I went deep into and have not regretted it,even though they are not "HOT" and 2 will still, more than likely,be HOF contenders 1 day are Manny Ramirez,Carlos Delgado and Cliff Floyd. Cliff Floyd looked like he would consume you with his desire to play ball.Sadly his performance bottomed out in 2000 and he has not recovered since. I know he has it in him, I am jsut not sure he knows anymore.

Anyway, I get like this,ignore it :P

Good luck

Andrew Lambo's 2008 BC Autos are dirt cheap in comparison to his talent and team affiliation...I'd rate it a solid buy right now.

Solid Solid purchase? Caleb Gindl. He's hit at every level thus far and is very age-appropriate.

..except he strikes out like 25% of the time. And his K/BB is nearly 2/1.
